The European section of the 1962 FIFA World Cup qualification functioned as the qualifiers for the 1962 World Cup, which took place in Chile. Romania National Football Team
The Romania national football team ( ro, Echipa națională de fotbal a României) represents Romania in international men's football competition and is administered by the Romanian Football Federation ( ro, Federația Română de Fotbal), also known as FRF. They are colloquially known as ''Tricolorii'' (The Tricolours). Romania is one of only four national teams from Europe—the other three being Belgium, France, and Yugoslavia—that took part in the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930. Nahum Stelmach
Nahum Stelmach ( he, נחום סטלמך; – ) was an Israeli footballer and manager. Biography Stelmach was born in Petah Tikva, British Mandate of Palestine (now Israel), to a Jewish family. He was chosen third by ''Yediot Aharonots greatest Israeli footballers. He made a name for himself as the leader of Hapoel Petah Tikva. At the height of his career in Hapoel Petah Tikva, Stelmach received offers to sign for Arsenal and Fenerbahçe but declined due to his loyalty to the team. He led his team to five national championships, four of them consecutive. His most recognizable attribute was the quality of his headers, with which he scored most of his international goals. As a result, he was commonly nicknamed "the golden head" in Israel. Tomáš Pospíchal
Tomáš Pospíchal (26 June 1936 in Pudlov - 21 October 2003 in Prague) was a Czechs, Czech football player. Pospíchal played for several clubs, including TJ Vítkovice (1952–1955), Baník Ostrava (1957–1964), AC Sparta Prague, Sparta Prague (1964–1968) and FC Rouen (1968–1971). He played for Czechoslovakia national football team, Czechoslovakia national team (26 matches and 8 goals), and was a participant at the 1962 FIFA World Cup, where he played in the last three matches. After ending his career as a player he started coaching. Pospíchal coached several top Czech clubs, including Baník Ostrava (1972–1975), Bohemians 1905, Bohemians Praha (1977–1987) and SK Slavia Prague, Slavia Prague (1987–1988). Charles Antenen (3 November 1929 – 20 May 2000) was a Swiss football player, who was nicknamed ''Kiki''. Career Antenen played for FC La Chaux-de-Fonds from 1944 to 1952 and 1953–65, winning three Swiss championships and six Swiss Cups. He also played for Lausanne Sports from 1952 to 1953. Yngve Brodd
Rolf Yngve Brodd (9 June 1930 – 23 September 2016) was a Swedish professional footballer who played as a striker. He began his career with Fritsla IF and then went on to represent Örebro SK, Toulouse, and Sochaux before retiring at IFK Göteborg in 1964. A full international between 1952 and 1963, he won 20 caps and scored 12 goals for the Sweden national team and was part of the Sweden squad that won bronze at the 1952 Summer Olympics. Club career Brodd began his club career with Fristla IF, and signed for Örebro SK after having scored 32 goals in 33 games in the lower divisions. While at Örebro, he scored 7 goals in 19 games before moving to France where he represented Toulouse and Sochaux between 1953 and 1962. He then wrapped up his career at IFK Göteborg as player-manager, playing in 47 games and scoring 11 goals until his retirement as a player in 1964. Bobby Charlton
Sir Robert Charlton (born 11 October 1937) is an English former footballer who played either as a midfielder or a forward. Considered one of the greatest players of all time, he was a member of the England team that won the 1966 FIFA World Cup, the year he also won the Ballon d'Or. He finished second in the Ballon d'Or in 1967 and 1968. Adolf Scherer
Adolf Scherer (born 5 May 1938) is a Slovak footballer who played as a striker. He is of Carpathian German descent. He played 36 games and scored 22 goals for the Czechoslovakia national team. Scherer represented Czechoslovakia at the 1960 European Nations' Cup and 1958 FIFA World Cup, where he did not play any match. In the 1962 FIFA World Cup, he again played for the Czechoslovak national team - where he proved himself to be a valuable player. They made it to the final match against Brazil, and Scherer assisted Josef Masopust in Czechoslovakia’s first and only goal of the game. Brazil ultimately won the match, subsequently scoring three more. Throughout the tournament, Scherer scored a total of three goals - including a winning goal in the quarterfinal against Hungary and a late goal against Yugoslavia in the semifinal. 1930 FIFA World Cup
The 1930 FIFA World Cup was the inaugural FIFA World Cup, the world championship for men's national football teams. It took place in Uruguay from 13 to 30 July 1930. FIFA, football's international governing body, selected Uruguay as host nation, as the country would be celebrating the centenary of its first constitution and the Uruguay national football team had successfully retained their football title at the 1928 Summer Olympics. All matches were played in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo, the majority at the Estadio Centenario, which was built for the tournament. 1962 FIFA World Cup Qualification (CAF–UEFA Play-off)
The 1962 FIFA World Cup CAF–UEFA qualification play-off was a two-legged home-and-away tie between the winners of the CAF final round, Morocco, and the winners of the UEFA Group 9 second round, Spain. The matches were played on 12 and 23 November 1961 in Casablanca and Madrid, respectively. Spain won the series after beating Morocco in both matches (1–0 in Casablanca and 3–2 in Madrid), and therefore qualified for the World Cup.
