1962 FIFA World Cup Qualification (CAF–UEFA Play-off)
The 1962 FIFA World Cup CAF–UEFA qualification play-off was a two-legged home-and-away tie between the winners of the CAF final round, Morocco, and the winners of the UEFA Group 9 second round, Spain. The matches were played on 12 and 23 November 1961 in Casablanca and Madrid, respectively. Spain won the series after beating Morocco in both matches (1–0 in Casablanca and 3–2 in Madrid), and therefore qualified for the World Cup. Luis Del Sol
Luis del Sol Cascajares (6 April 1935 – 20 June 2021) was a Spanish football midfielder and manager. He played a total of 112 La Liga games for Betis and Real Madrid (28 goals scored), winning five major titles with the latter side and earning several Ballon d'Or nominations. He later had brief spells as manager with the former club. Del Sol represented Spain in two World Cups, in the 1960s. Pedro Escartín
Pedro Escartín Morán (8 August 1902 – 21 May 1998) was a Spanish football player, referee, coach, journalist and author. He was an international referee from 1928 to 1948, and a member of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee for 27 years. He also went on to manage the Spain national football team in two different tenures. He was also a journalist in Spain for most of his life, and is a well-respected figure of the sport in Spain in the 20th century. Ignacio Zoco
Ignacio Zoco Esparza (31 July 1939 – 28 September 2015) was a Spanish footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. He spent 12 years of his professional career with Real Madrid, appearing in more than 400 official matches and winning ten major titles. Zoco played more than 20 times with Spain, winning the 1964 European Nations' Cup and also representing the nation at the 1966 World Cup. Luis María "Koldo" Aguirre Vidaurrázaga (27 April 1939 – 3 July 2019) was a Spanish football midfielder and manager. He played for Athletic Bilbao for twelve years, appearing in 297 competitive matches (61 goals scored) and winning two Copa del Rey trophies. Isacio Calleja García (6 December 1936 – 4 February 2019) was a Spanish professional Association football, footballer who played as a Defender (association football), defender. Club career Calleja was born in Valle de Cerrato, Province of Palencia. Save for a very brief loan spell with CD Guadalajara (Spain), CD Guadalajara in the Tercera División, third division he spent his entire 14-year professional career with Atlético Madrid, making his La Liga debut on 4 January 1959 in a 0–1 away loss against Real Oviedo and finishing 1958–59 La Liga, his first season with only nine games (albeit all complete). José Emilio Santamaría Iglesias (born 31 July 1929) is a retired football central defender and manager. He spent his 18-year career with Nacional and Real Madrid, winning a combined 17 titles including four European Cups with the latter club. Born in Uruguay, Santamaría represented both the Uruguay and Spain national teams. He later embarked in a managerial career, which included a two-year spell managing Spain. Feliciano Muñoz Rivilla (21 August 1936 – 6 November 2017) was a Spanish footballer who played as a right back. He spent the better part of his 16-year senior career with Atlético Madrid, playing 356 competitive games and scoring seven goals. He won four major honours with that club, including the 1965–66 edition of La Liga. José Araquistáin Arrieta (born 4 March 1937) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Club career Real Sociedad Born in Azkoitia, Gipuzkoa, Araquistáin started his career with local Real Sociedad, playing five La Liga seasons with the club and being first-choice in four of those.
