Paul Brown
Paul Eugene Brown (September 7, 1908 – August 5, 1991) was an American football coach and executive in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) and National Football League (NFL). Brown was both the co-founder and first coach of the Cleveland Browns, a team named after him, and later played a role in founding the Cincinnati Bengals. His teams won seven league championships in a professional coaching career spanning 25 seasons. Brown began his coaching career at Severn School in 1931 before becoming the head football coach at Massillon Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio, where he grew up. His high school teams lost only 10 games in 11 seasons. He was then hired at Ohio State University and coached the school to its first national football championship in 1942. After World War II, he became head coach of the Browns, who won all four AAFC championships before joining the NFL in 1950. The 1961 Chicago Bears season was their 42nd regular season completed in the National Football League. The team finished with an 8–6 record under George Halas, which was an improvement over the 5–6–1 record of the previous season. Offseason On January 14, Chicago Bears End Willard Dewveall played out his option and joined the Houston Oilers of the American Football League. He became the first player to move deliberately from one league to another. The Bears were notable for taking part in an exhibition game in their first ever game outside of the United States, taking on the CFL's Montreal Alouettes (the original team), winning 34–16. Leon Marvin Clarke (born 10 February 1985) is an English professional Association football, footballer who plays as a Forward (association football), striker. Johnny Brewer
Johnny Lee Brewer (March 8, 1937 – May 27, 2011) was an American football tight end and linebacker in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints. He played college football at the University of Mississippi. Brewer was a fourth round selection by the Cleveland Browns in the 1960 NFL Draft, and was also selected by the Minneapolis AFL teamof the newly-formed American Football League. The Browns also selected Ole Miss teammates Bobby Franklin in the eleventh round and Robert Khayat in the sixth round. He was a member of the Browns teams that won the NFL championship in 1964 over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts and the 1965 Eastern Conference championship team that lost the title game to the Green Bay Packers. Robert C. "Bobby" Crespino (January 11, 1938 – July 29, 2013) was an American football tight end who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants. Born in Duncan, Mississippi, he played college football at the University of Mississippi and was drafted in the first round (tenth overall) of the 1961 NFL Draft. Charles Edward Ferguson (November 13, 1939 – February 14, 2023) was an American professional football player who was a tight end in the American Football League (AFL) with the Buffalo Bills. He was in playoff games with the Bills in four straight years from 1963 to 1966, and won AFL championships with them in 1964 and 1965. He was an AFL All-Star in 1965. Robert Gern Nagler (February 23, 1932 – April 9, 2020) was an American football end who played eight seasons in the National Football League (NFL). Early life Nagler was born in Marysville, California and raised in nearby Arboga He attended Marysville High School (class of 1949), where he was an all-league selection in football his junior and senior years. He attended the University of Santa Clara (class of 1953), majoring in history, and was a captain of the varsity football team in his senior year. NFL career Nagler was drafted in the 14th round of the 1953 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Ray Renfro
Austin Raymond Renfro (November 7, 1929 – August 4, 1997) was an American professional gridiron football player. Renfro attended the University of North Texas and played in 12 NFL seasons from 1952–1963 for the Cleveland Browns. He is the father of former Houston Oilers and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Mike Renfro. Ray died at the age of 67 and was interred at the Greenwood Memorial Park cemetery along with Lon Evans. Tom Watkins (American Football)
Tom Watkins (October 23, 1937 – October 29, 2011) was an American football running back in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 15th round of the 1960 NFL Draft. He played college football at Iowa State. Watkins also played for the Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers. He was inducted into Iowa State's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002. According to George Plimpton's best-selling book "Paper Lion" Watkins, graduated from Iowa State University in 1961, was one of the best running backs in Cyclone history. A member of the famed 1959 "Dirty Thirty" team, Watkins ranked second in the nation in rushing that season and earned All-America honors the following year in 1960. Robert Cornelius Mitchell (June 6, 1935 – April 5, 2020) was an American professional football player who was a halfback and flanker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Cleveland Browns and the Washington Redskins. Mitchell became the Redskins' first African-American star after joining them in 1962, when they became the last NFL team to integrate.
