The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1938 took place February 24–28, 1938 in Lahti, Finland. This was the Finnish city's second time hosting the championships after having done so in 1926. Lahti
Lahti (; sv, Lahtis) is a city and municipality in Finland. It is the capital of the region of Päijänne Tavastia (Päijät-Häme) and its growing region is one of the main economic hubs of Finland. Sven Hansson (March 16, 1912 – July 14, 1971) was a Swedish cross-country skier who competed in the 1930s. He won a bronze medal in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 1938 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti. His best individual finish was fourth in the 18 km event at the 1937 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships is a biennial nordic skiing event organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The World Championships was started in 1925 for men and opened for women's participation in 1954. World Championship events include nordic skiing's three disciplines: cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and nordic combined (the latter being a combination sport consisting of both cross-country and ski jumping). From 1924 to 1939, the World Championships were held every year, including the Winter Olympics. After World War II, the World Championships were held every four years from 1950 to 1982. Since 1985, the World Championships have been held in odd-numbered years. Hilmar Myhra
Hilmar Arnold Myhra (4 June 1915 – 13 April 2013) was a Norwegian ski jumper who competed before World War II. He won the opening competition of the hill Vikersundbakken in February 1936, and held the hill record of 85 meters for a few years. It was broken by Arnholdt Kongsgård in 1946. He also won a bronze medal in the individual large hill at the 1938 Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti, and finished sixth in the same event at the 1939 Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane. Stanisław Marusarz (); 18 June 1913 – 29 October 1993) was a Polish Nordic skiing competitor in the 1930s. Life Stanisław Marusarz won a silver medal in ski jumping at the 1938 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti — the first Pole ever to earn a medal in the championships. He also finished sixth in the individual nordic combined event at the 1933 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Innsbruck. Marusarz was named one of the best young talents in ski jumping in the late 1920s and earned his first national title in 1931. Many skiers outside of the Nordic countries (Finland, Norway, and Sweden), who dominated classical skiing in the early 20th century, considered Marusarz "the best Nordic combiner in the world after heNorwegians." Asbjørn Ruud
Asbjørn Ruud (6 October 1919 – 26 March 1989) was a Norwegian ski jumper. Together with his brothers Birger and Sigmund he dominated international ski jumping in the 1930s. Ruud won a gold medal at the 1938 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Hans Vinjarengen (20 August 1905 – 1 February 1984) was a Nordic combined skier from Norway. He won a silver medal at the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz and a bronze at the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. In addition, he won gold medals at the 1929 and 1930 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and bronzes in 1934 and 1938. John Westbergh
John Westbergh (August 6, 1915 – November 12, 2002) was a Swedish nordic skier who competed in the 1930s. In the military patrol event at the 1936 Summer Olympics he won the bronze medal with his Swedish team. He won two silver medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, in 1938 (nordic combined) and in 1939 (cross-country skiing 4 × 10 km relay). Olaf Hoffsbakken (2 September 1908 – 23 November 1986) was a Norwegian Nordic skier who competed in the 1930s. He won two silver medals at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in both the Nordic combined and the 4 × 10 km relay. In addition, he won a complete set of medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. This included a gold in the Nordic combined (1938), a silver in the 4 × 10 km relay (1935), and a bronze in the 18 km (1935).
