Wellington Ward
Wellington Ward was one of the original five wards of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada created in 1855 from West Ward in Bytown, Upper Canada. It existed until 1994 when it was amalgamated with Dalhousie Ward to become Somerset Ward. The original ward consisted of the city west of the Rideau Canal and south of Wellington Street. It has traditionally consisted of Ottawa's Centretown and Downtown neighbourhoods. Prior to 1952, it consisted of the area between Bank Street and Bronson Avenue (and north of the Grand Trunk Railway following the creation of Capital Ward). Victoria Ward (Ottawa)
Victoria Ward was one of the original municipal wards in the city of Ottawa, Province of Canada created in 1855 from part of West Ward in Bytown. Victoria Ward originally consisted of the now uninhabited LeBreton Flats neighbourhood of Ottawa and Parliament Hill. When the city expanded westward, it began to include all of the city north of Wellington Street, encompassing Mechanicsville and parts of Hintonburg. Elmdale Ward was a municipal ward in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The ward was created in 1929 when it was split off from Dalhousie Ward. It existed until 1994, when it was merged with Queensboro Ward to become Kitchissippi Ward. From 1952 to 1980, the ward was known as Elmdale-Victoria Ward, after Elmdale Ward merged with Victoria Ward. Elmdale Ward originally consisted of Ottawa's western suburbs, such as Civic Hospital and Hintonburg, but was later shifted west by an expanding Dalhousie Ward to its east. Dan McCann (politician)
Daniel McCann (30 November 1957 – 6 March 1988) was a member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA), who was murdered by the British Army on 6 March 1988 whilst being accused of attempting to plant a car bomb in Gibraltar. Early life McCann was born into an Irish republican family from the Clonard area of West Belfast. He was educated at primary level at St Gall's Primary School, Belfast, and at St Mary's Grammar School, Belfast. McCann did not finish his education as he was arrested after becoming involved in rioting. He was charged and convicted of "riotous behaviour" and sentenced to six months in prison. Later that year McCann joined the Provisional IRA. He was later convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment for the possession of explosives. Edward Band (7 January 1886 – 22 March 1971) was an English Presbyterian missionary and schoolteacher. He spent the most significant portion of his career in Taiwan, arriving in 1912 and leaving in 1940. He was the first missionary in Taiwan to be sent to Japan to learn Japanese after the transfer of power from the Qing dynasty to the Japanese government.Otness, pp. 8–9 He taught at and was eventually principal of Tainan's Presbyterian Church High School, renamed in 1939, and was said to have been responsible for introducing association football to the island.
