The 1913 French Grand Prix was a Grand Prix motor race held at Amiens on 12 July 1913. The buildup to the race and the race itself were marred by three fatal crashes. Bigio was killed testing his Itala before the race. In a separate incident before the race, Paul Zuccarelli was killed when his Peugeot crashed into a cart, and a spectator was killed when Kenelm Lee Guinness's Sunbeam crashed into a river. This made Amiens's fatality tally rise to 5 in the span of less than two months- 2 other people had been killed while testing on the roads being used for the circuit in May. After this race, this circuit- which included an 8-mile (13 km) long straight (which is now known as the D934)- was never used again for motor racing. Josef Henri Charles Christiaens, sometimes spelt Joseph (16 June 1882 – 25 February 1919), was a Belgian engineer, racecar driver and aviator. Biography Christiaens was born in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode on 16 June 1882 to a prosperous Belgian family. On 13 August 1905 he participated in the ''Coupe de Liedekerke et Williame'' race held near Dinant, Belgium. The race spanned 102.740 km, but Josef failed to complete the race. He also failed to qualify for the ''Il Coupe de Normandie'' with his Vivinus 6 racecar on 29 August 1909. The Vivinus later gave Christiaens his first victory, winning the 2nd ''Coupe de Liedekerke et Williame'' in Ostend, Belgium on 13 September 1909. He went on to take a string of victories in Europe and in the US. Carl Jörns (December 11, 1875 – July 19, 1969) was a German race car driver. Information Little is known of Jorns' early life. He started out as a cyclist and became connected with the Opel family, who ran the Opel sewing machine and bicycle company. He won his first bicycle race in 1893. As the Opel company started to expand into automobile manufacturing, he became a driver for Opel's racing team. He retired from cycling in 1900, after winning 300 races. Mathis S.A. was an automobile manufacturer in Alsace that produced cars between 1910 and 1950. Founder Émile Mathis (1880–1956) was born in Strasbourg and died in Geneva. Hermès-Simplex Émile Mathis was a leading car dealer in Strasbourg, Alsace, handling Fiat, De Dietrich and Panhard-Levassor, among other makes from his Auto-Mathis-Palace. Two models were designed for him by the young Ettore Bugatti. Made at his Graffenstaden factory he marketed them under the brand Hermes with 28, 40, or 98 hp engines. Felice Nazzaro
Felice Nazzaro (4 December 1881 – 21 March 1940) was an Italian racecar driver, a native of Turin. He won the Kaiserpreis in 1907 as well as the French Grand Prix in 1907 and 1922 and Targa Florio in 1907, and 1913. His European wins in 1907 resulted in an invitation to compete in the 1908 American Grand Prize in Savannah, Georgia, where he finished third. He returned to the United States for the 1910 event but a damaged rear axle forced him out of the race. It was his victory in the 1908 Circuito di Bologna that inspired a young Enzo Ferrari to become a racing driver.
