George V
George V (George Frederick Ernest Albert; 3 June 1865 – 20 January 1936) was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 6 May 1910 until Death and state funeral of George V, his death in 1936. Born during the reign of his grandmother Queen Victoria, George was the second son of Edward VII, Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, and was third in the line of succession to the British throne behind his father and his elder brother, Prince Albert Victor. William Robson, Baron Robson
William Snowdon Robson, Baron Robson, (10 September 1852 – 11 September 1918) was an English lawyer, judge and Liberal politician who sat in the House of Commons twice between 1885 and 1910. Background and early life Robson was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the son of Robert Robson merchant of Newcastle-on-Tyne and his wife Emily Jane Snowden, daughter of William Snowden of Newcastle-on-Tyne. He was educated at Newcastle and at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He was called to the bar by the Inner Temple in 1880 and became a Queen's Counsel in 1892. Edward Philip Solomon
Sir Edward Phillip Solomon (1845 – 20 November 1914) was a successful lawyer and politician of the Transvaal Colony and the Union of South Africa. Early life Edward Solomon was born in 1845, studied to be an attorney, and based himself in Johannesburg. He was involved in politics from early on, strongly identifying with the cause of the "Uitlanders" (English resident in the Boer republics). He even became a prominent member of the Reform Committee which sponsored the Jameson Raid in 1895, which led to his brief imprisonment in Pretoria. Solomon was a member of a large and influential Cape family, of St Helenan Jewish descent. Nicolaas Frederic De Waal
Sir Nicolaas Frederic de Waal (8 July 1853 – 5 April 1932) was the first Administrator of the Cape Province in South Africa. He was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands and arrived in South Africa in 1880 where he settled in Middelburg and opened a law practice. He became a leading figure in the Afrikaner Bond and in 1898 became a member of the Parliament of the Cape of Good Hope. In 1908, he became Colonial Secretary in the cabinet of Prime Minister John X. Merriman. After the formation of the Union of South Africa in 1910, De Waal became the Administrator of the Cape Province until his retirement in 1926. As Administrator, he initiated the construction of a high-level road linking the city to the Southern Suburbs, known until 2017 as De Waal Drive. James Percy FitzPatrick
Sir James Percy FitzPatrick, (24 July 1862 – 24 January 1931), known as Percy FitzPatrick, was a South African author, politician, mining financier and pioneer of the fruit industry. He authored the classic children's book, ''Jock of the Bushveld'' (1907). As a politician, he defended British Imperial interests before and during the Anglo-Boer War. FitzPatrick is responsible for the creation of the two-minute silence observed on Armistice Day. National Convention (South Africa)
The National Convention (Dutch: ''Nationale Conventie'', Afrikaans: ''Nasionale Konvensie''), also known as the Convention on the Closer Union of South Africa or the Closer Union Convention, was a constitutional convention held between 1908 and 1909 in Durban (12 October to 5 November 1908), Cape Town (23 November to 18 December 1908, 11 January to 3 February 1909) and Bloemfontein (3 May to 11 May 1909). The convention led to the adoption of the South Africa Act by the British Parliament and thus to the creation of the Union of South Africa. The four colonies of the area that would become South Africa - the Cape Colony, Natal Colony, the Orange River Colony and the Transvaal Colony - were represented at the convention, along with a delegation from Rhodesia. Sir Allen Bristol Aylesworth, (27 November 1854 – 13 February 1952) was a Canadian lawyer and parliamentarian. Life and career Born in Newburgh, Canada West, of United Empire Loyalist ancestry, Aylesworth was educated at the University of Toronto, and called to the Ontario Bar in 1878. As the Canadian member of the Alaska Boundary Tribunal in 1903, he presented his country's views in a minority report. This is a list of the British Residents of Malay State of Perak, British Malaya.Malaysian States http://www.worldstatesmen.org/Malay_states.htm The position of Resident was an administrative post. Sir Ernest Woodford Birch, Wright, Arnold, Twentieth Century Impressions of British Malaya: Its history, ''People'', commerce, industries and resources, 1908 (29 April 1857 – 17 December 1929) was a British colonial administrator who served as the eighth British resident of Perak (1904–1911).
