1901–02 Haverford Fords Men's Soccer Team
The 1901–02 Haverford Fords men's soccer team represented Haverford College during the 1901–02 college soccer season. It was the Fords first season of existence. The Fords competed in ACCL and were deemed national co-champions by the American Soccer History Archives and the Intercollegiate Football Research Association. The Fords garnered a record of four wins, a loss and no draws. Haverford College
Haverford College ( ) is a private liberal arts college in Haverford, Pennsylvania. It was founded as a men's college in 1833 by members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), began accepting non-Quakers in 1849, and became coeducational in 1980. The college offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in 31 majors across humanities, social sciences and natural sciences disciplines. It is a member of the Tri-College Consortium, which includes Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore College, Swarthmore colleges, as well as the Quaker Consortium, which includes those schools as well as the University of Pennsylvania. Germantown Academy, informally known as GA and originally known as the Union School, is the oldest nonsectarian day school in the United States. The school was founded on December 6, 1759, by a group of prominent Germantown citizens in the Green Tree Tavern on the Germantown Road. Walton Field
The Haverford Fords compete at the NCAA Division III level in the Centennial Conference. The program has a modest history in collegiate athletics. Haverford boasts the only Varsity team, varsity cricket team in the United States. Its men's and women's track and field and cross country running, cross country teams are perennial powerhouses in their division. The outdoor track and field team won the first 16 Centennial Conference championships, and men's cross country has won all but two Centennial Conference championships. The soccer team is among the nation's oldest, having won its first intercollegiate match in 1905 against Harvard College. Haverford is an unincorporated community located in both Haverford Township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States, and Lower Merion Township in Montgomery County, approximately west of Philadelphia. The Belmont Cricket Club was one of four chief cricket (sport), cricket clubs in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that played from its 1874 founding in West Philadelphia until its disbanding in 1914. Bart King, arguably America's greatest cricketer during History of United States cricket, its 1890-1914 golden age, played for Belmont from 1893 to 1913. Merion Cricket Club is a private club in Haverford, Pennsylvania, founded in 1865. The current clubhouse is its sixth, the last four having been designed by Philadelphia architect Frank Furness and his partner, Allen Evans, who was also a founder of the club. The club was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987 for its leading role in the promotion, development and continued support of cricket, golf, squash, and tennis in the United States.
