Clube Desportivo 1º de Agosto is a multisports club from Luanda, Angola. The club, founded 1 August 1977, is attached to the Angolan armed forces, which is its sponsor. Its main team competes in men's football, and its professional basketball team is also noteworthy within the club. The club's colors are red and black. The club won its first title in football, the Angolan League, in 1979. and in basketball in 1980. Handball and Volleyball have also won many titles to the club. The Primeiro de Agosto Sports Club has its football team competing at the local level, in the events organized by the Angolan Football Federation, namely the Angolan National Football Championship a.k.a. Girabola, the Angola Cup and the Angola Super Cup as well as at continental level, at the annual competitions organized by the African Football Confederation (CAF), including the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup. Estádio França Ndalu
Estádio França Ndalu is an Angolan football stadium built and owned by Clube Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto and will be the venue for the club's home games in all events that it takes part of. The stadium is named after Gen. António França, nicknamed "Ndalu" who was a key figure in the club's foundation in 1977. The 20,000-seat stadium is located in the Cassequel neighborhood, Maianga district, Luanda, Angola. The 1980 Girabola was the second season of top-tier football competition in Angola. The season ran from 19 April 1980 to 28 February 1981. Primeiro de Agosto were the defending champions. The league comprised 14 teams, the bottom three of which were relegated. Primeiro de Agosto were crowned champions, winning their 2nd title, while Palancas do Huambo, Sagrada Esperança, Santa Rita and Sassamba da LS were relegated. On the course of the championship, Santa Rita de Moçâmedes was renamed as Grupo Desportivo Welwitschia. Estrela Vermelha do Huambo, on its part, was renamed as Mambroa. 2009 Angola Cup
The 2009 Taça de Angola was the 28th edition of the Taça de Angola, the second most important and the top knock-out football club competition in Angola, following the Girabola. Primeiro de Agosto beat Sagrada Esperança 2–1 in the final, to secure its 3rd title. The winner and the runner-up qualified to the CAF Confederation Cup. Sagrada who were supposed to participate as the runner-up, later declined to participate citing financial reasons, being replaced by Académica do Soyo. 2018–19 Girabola
The 2018–19 Girabola was the 41st season of top-tier football in Angola. The season was held from 27 October 2018 to 19 May 2019. The league was contested by 16 teams and the bottom three teams were relegated to the 2020 Provincial stages. In the 13th round match between Saurimo FC and ASA, the home team goal-keeper Anselmo, felt confident enough to leave his goal unguarded and shoot a free kick that had been awarded for his team, 25 minutes into the game. His confidence paid off as he scored the only goal in the home team's 1-0 win, something unheard of in Angolan football.
