The 1st Gaumee Film Awards ceremony, presented by Ministry of Information and Culture, honored the best Maldivian films released before 1995. Gaumee Film Awards
The Gaumee Film Awards aka Dhivehi Film Awards are presented by National Centre for the Arts to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Maldivian film industry. The Gaumee Film Award ceremony is the oldest film events in Maldives. The ceremony had been sponsored by various private organisations in the past as well as in present provisions. A live ceremony was broadcast to television audiences. History A meeting was arranged at MCM on 30 October 1993, once the government decides to hold a Film Festival to honor the film industry. The awards were first introduced in 1994. Out of the twenty two people invited from the fraternity, only ten people showed up for the meeting. Beyvafaa
''Beyvafaa'' is a 1993 Maldivian drama film directed by Ibrahim Rasheed. Produced by Hussain Rasheed under Farivaa Films, the film stars Hussain Ali, Reeko Moosa Manik and Waleedha Waleed in pivotal roles. Premise Sharumeela (Waleedha Waleed), a blind orphan, intolerant of her tenants, moves out of the house she resides in. Mohamed meets Sharumeela and sympathizes for her disability and takes care of her where he later confesses his love for her. Mohamed shares his marriage plan to his father (Chilhiya Moosa Manik) who disowns him when he refuses to comply with his father's demands. Sharumeela and Mohamed marry and consult a doctor visiting from Japan. After a successful operation, Sharumeela gains her eyesight. ''Udhaas'' is a 1993 Maldivian comedy drama film directed by Ahmed Nimal. Produced by Mohamed Rasheed under Ocean Films, the film stars Rasheed, Fathimath Rameeza and Waleedha Waleed in pivotal roles. Premise Shahir ( Mohamed Rasheed) a wealthy businessman falls in love with a gorgeous woman, Shehenaz (Fathimath Rameeza). Through a phone conversation, Shahir arranges a date with Shehenaz, however a widow staying in her house, Shareefa (Sithi Fulhu), shows up to the meeting instead of Shehenaz, much to his discomfort. Karuna (1994 Film)
''Karuna'' is a 1994 Maldivian film written and directed by Ibrahim Rasheed. Produced by Hussain Rasheed under Farivaa Films, the film stars Hassan Afeef, Lillian Saeed and Ali Firaq in pivotal roles. The film follows two friends and business partners who fall in love with the same girl and their battle to pursue her love. Premise Nadheem, a timid and reticent young man, performs at a party which catches the attention of Shaanee. Both Nadheem and his friend and business partner, Siraj fall in love with Shaanee and decide to propose her separately and accept the fate Shaanee decides. As both put forth their proposals, Shaanee favored Nadheem, hurting Siraj's sentiments. Umar Zahir
Umar Zahir (22 November 1963) is a Maldivian singer. Early life and career Zahir began his career as a musician by joining several music bands in performing at resorts and events. It was then his talent was identified by music composers and producers, where he was offered to lend his voice for several of their compositions. His album series ''Hanhaara'' became a record-breaking album and its songs including "Erey Haadha Rueemey" and "Mooney Thee Hiyy Edhey" became chartbusters upon release. In an article published by ''Mihaaru'', Ahmed Adhushan wrote: "Apart from his soulful rendition of the songs, his performance becomes an instant attachment to the music lovers, for its emotional and meaningful lyrics".
