The 1999–2000 Kazakhstan Hockey Championship'' was the eighth season of the Kazakhstan Hockey Championship, the top level of ice hockey in Kazakhstan. The Pro Hokei Ligasy formerly known as ''Republic of Kazakhstan Open Ice Hockey Championship'' ''( kk, Шайбалық хоккей бойынша Қазақстан Республикасының ашық чемпионаты, russian: Открытый Чемпионат Республики Казахстан по хоккею с шайбой)'', commonly referred to as ''Kazakh Hockey Championship'', is an annual ice hockey award and national title, bestowed to the winning ice hockey team in Kazakhstan, founded in 1992. On August 9, 2015, a 12,000-seat and 86,000-square-metre Ice Palace was opened in the Kazakh capital of Astana. The complex includes an ice arena, an ice hockey academy and 50-metre Olympic and artistic swimming pools. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. Hockey Club Barys ( kk, Барыс хоккей клубы , translit=Barys Hokkei Kluby), also referred to as Barys Astana or HC Barys, is a professional ice hockey team based in Astana, Kazakhstan. It is one of the founding members of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). They play in the league's Chernyshev Division of the Eastern Conference. Yenbek Almaty (russian: Хоккейный клуб Енбек Алматы, kk, Еңбек Алматы хоккей клубы, ''Eńbek Almaty hokkeı klýby'') was a Soviet and Kazakh ice hockey team in Almaty, Kazakhstan. They were active from 1965 to 1985 and from 1999 to 2009. History The club was founded in 1965 as Avtomobilist Alma-Ata () and played at first in the Soviet Hockey League Class B, the third level of Soviet ice hockey. Two years later, they promoted to Class A2. In 1972, club renamed to Yenbek Alma-Ata (''Yenbek'' means ''Labour'' in Kazakh language). In 1970, Yenbek Alma-Ata achieved a semifinal of Soviet Hockey Cup, where lost to Khimik Voskresensk. Yenbek played six seasons in Class A2 before they collapse in 1975. Avtomobilist Karaganda ( kk, Автомобилист Қарағанды) was an ice hockey team in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. They were active from 1966–1996 and from 1998–2000. History The club was founded in 1966 as Stroitel Karaganda () and played at first in the Vtoraya Liga, the third level of Soviet ice hockey. They won the Vtoraya Liga as Avtomobilist Karaganda in 1980, and were promoted to the Pervaya Liga. From 1992–1996, Karaganda participated in the International Hockey League (1992–1996), International Hockey League, which featured teams from the Commonwealth of Independent States. In 1993, they took on their old name of Stroitel again, and dissolved due to financial difficulties in 1996. In 1998, the team was revived as Avtomobilist, but they were dissolved after only one season.
