1998 Swedish Golf Tour (women)
The 1998 Swedish Golf Tour, known as the Telia Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 13th season of the Swedish Golf Tour, a series of professional golf tournaments for women held in Sweden and Finland. The tour extended to Finland for the first time with the inaugural Felix Finnish Ladies Open held at Aura Golf in Turku. Pernilla Sterner and Marie Hedberg both won two tournaments and Nina Karlsson won her second Order of Merit. Schedule The season consisted of 11 tournaments played between May and September, where one event was held in Finland. Marie Hedberg
Marie Eva Camilla Hedberg (born 24 February 1977) is a retired Swedish professional golfer. She was part of the Swedish teams winning the 1995 European Girls' Team Championship and the 1997 European Ladies' Team Championship and she has played on the Ladies European Tour. Amateur career Hedberg was selected for the National Team and won the 1995 European Girls' Team Championship and the 1997 European Ladies' Team Championship. In 1998, her team earned bronze at the European Lady Junior's Team Championship and finished fifth at the Espirito Santo Trophy in Santiago, Chile. She won the 1997 Vagliano Trophy representing the Continent of Europe. Hedberg attended San Jose State University and won the 1997 Western Athletic Conference Championship. She played on the Swedish Golf Tour and won the Toyota Ladies Open and the Adapt Ladies Open as an amateur in 1998. Timrå Ladies Open
The Timrå Ladies Open was a women's professional golf tournament on the Swedish Golf Tour, played between 1997 and 1999. It was always held in Timrå near Sundsvall, Sweden. The event was introduced in 1997 as the season's only new tournament, in addition to the launch of the Telia Ladies Finale and the one-off Volvo Anläggningsmaskiner Open. Swedish International (women)
The Swedish International Stroke Play Championship or Swedish International (SI) was a women's golf tournament played in Sweden from 1962 to 2007. It featured on the Swedish Golf Tour starting from the tour's inception in 1986. Named Svenskt Internationellt Slagtävlingsmästerskap (SISM) until it formally assumed the name Swedish International in 1984, the tournament was amateur only from 1962 to 1983, turning open to any golfer from 1984 with the introduction of the men's Swedish Golf Tour. Officially a Swedish National Championship starting in 1982, a separate National Champion was named in the event of a foreign winner. The tournament was discontinued after the 2007 season. Sophie Gustafson (born 27 December 1973) is a Swedish professional golfer. She was a member of the U.S.-based LPGA Tour and is a life member of the Ladies European Tour (LET). She has five LPGA Tour and 23 international wins in her career, including victories on five of the six continents on which golf is played: North America, Europe, Australia, Africa and Asia. Marlene Hedblom (born 13 November 1972 in Gävle) is a retired Swedish professional golfer. Early years Despite coming from a golfing family, she did not start playing until the age of 12 at Gävle Golf Club in Sweden. Riikka Hakkarainen (born 23 May 1977) is a Finnish professional golfer who played on the Ladies European Tour between 1998 and 2011. She won the 2006 Tenerife Ladies Open.
