1998 National Soccer League Grand Final
The 1998 National Soccer League Grand Final was held on 16 May 1998 between South Melbourne and Carlton SC at Olympic Park Stadium. South Melbourne gained home advantage as they won the major semi-final against them two weeks prior. John Anastasiadis scored in the ninth minute for South Melbourne as they went up 1–0 at the half time break. In the 78th minute, Marcus Stergiopoulos netted a goal for Carlton to equalise, however, an 87th minute winner from Con Boutsianis clinched the victory for South Melbourne, gifting them their third NSL championship. Paolo "Paul" Vincenzo Trimboli (born 25 February 1969) is a former Australian international football (soccer) player. Trimboli is of Italian ancestry and attended Xavier College, where he was a member of the First XI, and was captained by his brother. Constantinos "Con" Blatsis (born 6 July 1977) is a former Australian international association footballer who played as a defender. Club career Blatsis was born in Melbourne. He started his career at his home club South Melbourne making 104 league appearances before moving to English Premier League side Derby County in the summer of 2000. He subsequently joined First Division Sheffield Wednesday on loan making six appearances. After making only two appearances for Derby he was released and in March 2002 joined Division Two side Colchester United on a short-term deal. Michael Petkovic (born 16 July 1976) is an Australian former goalkeeper. Club career Petkovic is of Croatian origin and is the brother of former Perth Glory goalkeeper Jason Petkovic. Falcons 2000 Soccer Club is an Australian semi-professional soccer club based in the regional Victorian city of Morwell. Traditionally named Hellas, the club was founded by members of the Greek community of Adelaide.
