Central Hockey League
The Central Hockey League (CHL) was a North American mid-level minor professional ice hockey league which operated from 1992 until 2014. It was founded by Ray Miron and Bill Levins and later sold to Global Entertainment Corporation, which operated the league from 2000 to 2013, at which point it was purchased by the individual franchise owners. As of the end of its final season in 2014, three of the 30 National Hockey League teams had affiliations with the CHL: the Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, and Tampa Bay Lightning. Several teams of defunct leagues joined the CHL along its history, including the Southern Hockey League, Western Professional Hockey League and International Hockey League. After two teams suspended operations during the 2014 offseason, the ECHL accepted the remaining seven teams as members in October 2014, meaning the end for the CHL after 22 seasons. Macon Whoopee (CHL)
The Macon Whoopee is a defunct professional ice hockey team that played from 1996–97 CHL season, 1996 until 2000–01 CHL season, 2001 in the Central Hockey League (CHL). Located in Macon, Georgia, the team played its home games at the Macon Coliseum. History A professional ice hockey team known as the Macon Whoopees (SHL), Macon Whoopees, played in the Southern Hockey League (1973–1977), Southern Hockey League during the 1973–74 season, but poor attendance led the team to disband mid-season. Hockey was not resurrected in Macon until 1996. The new team, known as the "Whoopee" (without the plural "s"), played in the Central Hockey League from 1996 to 2001. After several owners endured seasons of poor attendance and financial losses, the team went bankruptcy, bankrupt in 2001. Rod Branch (born April 14, 1975) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. During his eight seasons in the Central Hockey League (CHL), Branch posted 22 shutouts to retire as the CHL's all-time career shut-out leader. David Beauregard
David-Alexandre Beauregard (born January 28, 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 14 years in the minor leagues. Early years Beauregard was born in Montreal, Quebec. From a very young age, Beauregard had been a scorer. When he was seven years old, he scored 230 goals in 43 games. As a junior playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Beauregard scored 224 points in 190 games; however, in his draft year he was only 5 feet 10 inches and weighed 165 pounds - too small to be selected early in the National Hockey League (NHL) draft. Despite his size, the San Jose Sharks had shown an interest in Beauregard and, on June 28, 1994, the Sharks selected him in the 11th round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, 271st overall. Hardy Sauter (born February 25, 1971) is an American-born Canadian former professional ice hockey defenseman and coach. Playing career Sauter was born in Dayton, Ohio, but moved to Maryfield, Saskatchewan at a young age. Sauter played junior hockey with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. The Fayetteville Force was a professional ice hockey team. based in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The franchise was a member of the Central Hockey League (1997–2001). They played their home games at the Crown Coliseum. Background In 1996, the Central Hockey League (CHL) decided to expand eastward, adding privately owned teams for the first time. Bill Coffey, one of the founders of the East Coast Hockey League, applied for a franchise in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The Cape Fear region had a population of close to a quarter of a million people and was the home of Fort Bragg, one of the largest military posts in the world. On June 17, 1997, it was announced that Fayetteville would become a member of the CHL.
