The 1997 SAGA World World Indoor Bowls Championship was held at Preston Guild Hall, Preston, England, from 23 January – 2 February 1997. In the singles Hugh Duff won his second title beating Andy Thomson in the final. In the pairs Tony Allcock won his seventh title in his first partnering with Mervyn King. Preston () is a city on the north bank of the River Ribble in Lancashire, England. Richard Corsie
Richard Corsie MBE (born 27 November 1966) is a Scottish international outdoor and indoor bowls player, he is considered to be among the best bowls players of all time. Bowls career Corsie won the World Indoor Bowls Championships singles title three times during his career and also won the pairs title twice with Alex Marshall and Graham Robertson respectively. He won the pairs title at the 1992 World Outdoor Bowls Championship with Marshall and two years later won a Commonwealth Games gold medal in the singles at the 1994 Commonwealth Games beating his long-time nemesis and friend Tony Allcock in the final. Gary Andrew Smith (born 13 October 1958) is a former English lawn and indoor bowler and is the Chief Executive of World Bowls. He is not to be confused with the Durham indoor bowler Gary R Smith. Bowls career Smith partnered Andy Thomson when they won the 1993 World Indoor Bowls Championship Pairs. He started playing at the age of 15 and played for the Blackheath and Greenwich bowls clubs and the Cyphers indoor club at Beckenham. Stephen John Glasson OAM (born 10 April 1969) is an Australian bowls player. He was number one in the world in 2004 and was ranked first in Australia between 1997 and 2005. He is currently the Australian national bowls coach. Early life Glasson was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1969. His father, Bob Glasson was a former Queensland bowls representative.
