1997 World Cup Of Golf
The 1997 World Cup of Golf took place 20–23 November at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, U.S. It was the 43rd World Cup. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event (32 teams) with each team consisting of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. Individuals also competed for the International Trophy. The prize money totaled $1,500,000 with $400,000 going to the winning pair and $100,000 to the top individual. The Irish team of Pádraig Harrington and Paul McGinley won by five strokes over the Scottish team of Colin Montgomerie and Raymond Russell. Kiawah Island, South Carolina
Kiawah is a sea island, or barrier island, on the Atlantic coast of the United States. Located southwest of Charleston in Charleston County, South Carolina, it is primarily a private beach and golf resort. Gordon Manson
Gordon David Manson (born 19 May 1960) is a Scottish-born Austrian professional golfer. Manson has had a successful career on the European Senior Tour which he joined in 2011. Manson led the final stage of the 2010 Qualifying school after three of the four rounds but had a last round of 75 to finish tied for seventh place, receiving a conditional card for the 2011 season. He has won twice; the 2015 Swiss Seniors Open and the 2016 Acorn Jersey Open. He has also been runner-up in the 2014 Travis Perkins Masters, the 2015 ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship and the 2015 Prostate Cancer UK Scottish Senior Open. Marc Farry
Marc-Antoine Farry (born 3 July 1959) is a French professional golfer. Farry was born in Paris, and started playing golf at the age of seven. He turned professional in 1979, and spent his early career as a teaching professional in Florida, United States. Farry was a full member of the European Tour from 1989 to 2004. He has won 16 tournaments on the French domestic tour, including the 1985 and 2000 French PGA Championships, but has only one win to his name on the European Tour, the 1996 BMW International Open, which was reduced to 36 holes because of rain. Mika Lehtinen (golfer)
Mika Lehtinen (born 23 May 1975 in Turku) is a Finnish professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing for A. S. Asiago Hockey in Italy's Serie A league. Lehtinen began his career with hometown team TPS in 1991 where he spent eleven seasons. In 2002, he moved to the Swedish Elitserien to play for Modo Hockey. He returned to Finland in 2004, signing for the Espoo Blues before returning to TPS the year after. Anssi Kankkonen
Anssi Kankkonen (born 11 October 1968) is a Finnish professional golfer who played on the European Tour. Kankkonen was born in Lahti, the son of former Olympic ski jumping champion Veikko Kankkonen, and followed in his father's footsteps winning a team competition in the Finnish Championships with the Lahti Ski Club team in 1985, before turning to golf. As an amateur, he represented Finland at the 1990 Eisenhower Trophy. He turned professional in 1990 and played on the Swedish Golf Tour before joining the Challenge Tour. Mark Hugh James (born 28 October 1953) is an English professional golfer who had a long career on the European Tour and captained Europe in the 1999 Ryder Cup. He has also played senior golf on the European Senior Tour and the U.S.-based Champions Tour. Early life and amateur career James was born in Manchester, England and educated at Stamford School. Paul Broadhurst
Paul Andrew Broadhurst (born 14 August 1965) is an English professional golfer. He won six times on the European Tour and played in the 1991 Ryder Cup. Since turning 50, he has had success in senior events, winning the 2016 Senior Open Championship and the 2018 Senior PGA Championship. Career Broadhurst was the leading amateur at the 1988 Open Championship. Knud Storgaard
Knud Storgaard Jensen (born 10 August 1972) is a Danish professional golfer. Storgaard, who holds a master's degree in nuclear physics, first qualified for the European Tour in 1998 having won once on the Challenge Tour the previous year. His first season was unsuccessful, but he again qualified for the 2003 European Tour season; unfortunately at the same time it was discovered that he was suffering from testicular cancer. Because of the cancer, Storgaard didn't participate in the European Tour season, and as a result he got a medical extension for the 2004 European Tour season. Thomas Bjørn
Thomas Bjørn (born 18 February 1971) is a professional golfer from Denmark who plays on the European Tour. He is the most successful Danish golfer to have played the game having won fifteen tournaments worldwide on the European Tour. In 1997 he also became the first Dane to qualify for a European Ryder Cup team. He captained the winning European side at the 2018 Ryder Cup. Jesús Armando Amaya Contreras (born 24 August 1969) is a Colombian professional golfer. Amaya was born in Bogotá, and worked as a caddie at the Club Popular de Golf La Florida before turning professional in 1991.
