1997 CAF Super Cup
The 1997 CAF Super Cup was the fifth CAF Super Cup, an annual football match in Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), between the winners of the previous season's two CAF club competitions, the African Cup of Champions Clubs and the African Cup Winners' Cup. The match took place on 14 February 1997, at Cairo International Stadium in Cairo, Egypt, between Egyptian clubs Zamalek, the 1996 African Cup of Champions Clubs winner, and Al Mokawloon Al Arab, the 1996 African Cup Winners' Cup winner. In the Second all-Egyptian CAF Super Cup, and the second time two clubs from the same country participate the same match in CAF Super Cup (after 1994). Zamalek won the trophy after beating Al Mokawloon Al Arab 4–2 in the penalty shoot-out, with the game ending 0–0. CAF Super Cup
The CAF Super Cup (also known as African Super Cup or for sponsorship reasons TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup) is an annual African association football competition contested between the winners of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup. The competition was first held in 1993 and is organized by the CAF. Egyptian clubs have the highest number of victories (12 titles), followed by Morocco with 5. Morocco have the largest number of winning teams, with four clubs from each having won the title. The competition has been won by 16 clubs, 6 of which have won it more than once. Al Ahly is the most successful club in the competition's history, having won the tournament a record 8 times. RS Berkane are the current defending champions, having beaten Wydad AC by two goals to nil in the 2022 CAF Super Cup. 1996 African Cup Winners' Cup
The 1996 African Cup Winners' Cup football club tournament was won by El Mokawloon El Arab in two-legged final victory against AC Sodigraf. This was the twenty-third season that the tournament took place for the winners of each African country's domestic cup. Thirty-seven sides entered the competition. Teams from Mauritania were disqualified because their federation was in debt to CAF. Great Olympics, Posta and Zasmure all withdrew before the 1st leg of the first round while Chapungu withdrew after the 1st leg. Olympique Béja withdrew before 1st leg of the second round and finally, Pretoria City withdrew before the 1st leg of the quarterfinals.
