1997 Australian Open
The 1997 Australian Open was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at Melbourne Park in Melbourne in Victoria in Australia. It was the 85th edition of the Australian Open and was held from 13 through 26 January 1997. Prior to the 2021 US Open, this was the last Grand Slam tournament not to feature Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, or Venus Williams in the main singles draw. Justin Gimelstob
Justin Jeremy Gimelstob (born January 26, 1977) is a retired American tennis player. Gimelstob has been a resident of Morristown, New Jersey, and as of 2009 lived in Santa Monica, California. He was the top-ranked boy in his age group at the ages of 12, 14, 16, and 18. As a pro, he made the final of the Newport Tournament in singles and has 15 doubles championships to his name, including the 1998 Australian Open and 1998 French Open mixed doubles titles with Venus Williams. He was twice a member of the U.S. Davis Cup team. In singles matches, he defeated Andre Agassi, Petr Korda, Àlex Corretja, Pat Rafter, and Gustavo Kuerten. His career singles record is 107–172. Ionuţ "Ion" Moldovan (born 17 January 1978) is a former professional tennis player from Romania. He was Vice-President of the Romanian Tennis Federation from 2013 to 2015. Career Moldovan had his best results on the ATP Tour at the 1996 Open Romania, where he was a singles quarter-finalist and in 2005, when he made the semi-finals of the same event, this time in the doubles, with countryman Gabriel Moraru. David Nainkin
David Nainkin (born 20 September 1970) is a former professional tennis player from South Africa. Career Nainkin never reached a final on the ATP Tour but made it into the semi finals of the 1995 Nokia Open in Beijing, before losing to Michael Chang. He had the best win of his Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam career at the 1996 US Open (tennis), 1996 US Open when he upset countryman and number nine seed Wayne Ferreira 6–4, 6–4, 2–6, 7–5 in the opening round. Kevin Ullyett
Kevin Ullyett (born 23 May 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Zimbabwe. His primary success on the tour was in men's doubles. Ullyett won 34 doubles titles during his career, including two Grand Slams at the 2001 US Open and the 2005 Australian Open with countryman Wayne Black. Roberto Aude Jabali (born 16 May 1970) is a former professional tennis player from Brazil. Career Jabali was a semi-finalist in the boys' singles event at the 1988 French Open and also made the final of the Banana Bowl that year. Gérard Solvès
Gérard Solvès (born 7 April 1968) is a French tennis player, coach and director of the Tennis Club de Paris. Career Solvès arrived on the scene in 1993, making the quarterfinals in Munich and Gstaad. He defeated some good players in both tournaments, defeating world number 19 Henrik Holm at Munich and managing a win over Wally Masur in Gstaad. In 1997 he made the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Open and was also a semi-finalist in Chennai that year. Solvès did well at Chennai again in 1998, making it as far as the quarterfinals.
