1996–97 Hong Kong FA Cup was the 23rd staging of the Hong Kong FA Cup. It was competed by all of the 7 teams from Hong Kong First Division League and Yee Hope from the Second Division. Double Flower Football Association () is a Hong Kong football club which plays in the Hong Kong Second Division. The club was very successful in 1990s in the then top-tier First Division under the name Instant-Dict (). Extra Time
Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. The club has a long history in playing in the top flight, but decided to self-relegate in the 2013–14 season after declining to participate in the newly established Hong Kong Premier League. Penalty Shootout (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Golden Goal
The golden goal or golden point is a rule used in association football, lacrosse, field hockey, and ice hockey to decide the winner of a match (typically a knock-out match) in which scores are equal at the end of normal time. It is a type of sudden death. Under this rule, the game ends when a goal or point is scored; the team that scores that goal or point during extra time is the winner. Introduced formally in 1993, though with some history before that, the rule ceased to apply to most FIFA-authorized football games in 2004. Sing Tao Sports Club () is a now defunct Hong Kong football club which was dissolved after the 1998–99 season. The club was established by Aw Hoe (), a director of ''Sing Tao Daily'' in 1940. The first team made their first appearance in the first division in the 1940–41 season. The team relegated to the second division twice, in 1962–63 and 1972–73 seasons respectively. The club turned professional in the 1968–69 season. Hong Kong Second Division League () is the third level of football league in Hong Kong founded in 1909. The top two teams are promoted to the Hong Kong First Division. Competition format * Each team plays the other teams twice, one home and one away game. The ticket profits go to the home team. If there are two matches in the same stadium on the day, the profits are shared between the two home teams. * Since most of the teams do not have a home ground, the matches will be playing on different grounds.
