The 1996 Nokia Cup, southern Ontario men's provincial curling championship was held February 6-11 at the Pickering Recreation Complex in Pickering, Ontario. The winning rink of Bob Ingram, Larry Smyth, Robert Rumfeldt, Jim Brackett from the Ridgetown Curling Club would go on to represent Ontario at the 1996 Labatt Brier The 1996 Labatt Brier was held at the Riverside Coliseum in Kamloops, British Columbia. Pickering, Ontario
Pickering (2021 population 99,186) is a city located in Southern Ontario, Canada, immediately east of Toronto in Durham Region. Ontario Tankard
The Ontario Tankard is the Southern Ontario provincial championship for men's curling. The winner represents Team Ontario at the Tim Hortons Brier. The tournament is overseen by CurlON (formerly the Ontario Curling Association). Northern Ontario has its own provincial championship, known as the Northern Ontario Men's Provincial Curling Championship. This championship is not to be confused with the Silver Tankard, historically also known as the Ontario Tankard (and until 1937 a Brier qualifier). Ottawa Curling Club
The Ottawa Curling Club is an historic curling club located on O'Connor Street in the Centretown neighbourhood of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is the oldest curling club in Ottawa, established in 1851 by Allan Gilmour as the Bytown Curling Club. The Club first played on the Rideau Canal until 1858. It subsequently moved to different locations around the city until finally settling at its current location on O'Connor in 1916. In 1931 the club was expanded to the current capacity of 5 curling sheets. Artificial ice was also installed at that time. Royal Kingston Curling Club is a curling club located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1820 and is recognized as one of the oldest curling clubs in Canada. The club received royal patronage in 1993. The Royal Kingston Curling Club, or "RKCC", offers a wide variety of social, recreational, and competitive programs to its members. Adam Spencer (curler)
Adam Spencer, nicknamed "Crusher" (born July 11, 1972) is a Canadian curler from Guelph, Ontario. Career Juniors In 1992, Spencer skipped a team consisting of Greg Robinson, Jeff Robinson and Nolan Sims to a provincial junior title. This qualified the rink to represent Ontario at the 1992 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. There, he led his Ontario rink to a 6-5 round robin record. This put them in a three-way tie for third place. They would go on to lose their tie breaker match against Saskatchewan's Scott Bitz. Men's After juniors, Spencer won a provincial Colts championship in 1994. He would be a skip for much of his early men's career, including going to his first Provincial championship in 1996, where he led his team to a 5–4 record and his second in 2003, where he led his team to a 1-8 record. Ed Werenich
Edward Werenich (born June 23, 1947) is a Canadian curler from Holland Landing, Ontario. Nicknamed "The Wrench," Werenich has been known to be a colourful and outspoken character. Outside of curling, Werenich worked as a firefighter. Career Werenich was born and raised in the town of Benito, Manitoba but moved to Toronto after finishing high school. He began curling at age ten. In 1972, Werenich joined Paul Savage's team as his second. The following year they would play in their first Brier. They would return again in 1974 and then in 1977 with Werenich as Savage's third. Without a championship, Werenich skipped his own team to the Brier in 1981, but still could not win. In 1983 Savage joined Werenich as his third and they would go on to win the Brier title that year over Ed Lukowich of Alberta.
