Ian Robertson (Australian Rules Footballer)
Ian Anthony Robertson (born 25 January 1946 in Footscray, Victoria) is a former Australian rules footballer in the VFL and currently a football commentator. Robertson was born in Footscray and recruited to the Carlton Football Club from Dalyston after the Footscray Football Club refused a request for a trial with the club. Robertson debuted in 1967 with the Blues and was a solid midfielder. The fact that he was taken from Footscray's recruitment zone became an issue two years into Robertson's career, when the Bulldogs asked for their rights to him as a player. Ken Greenwood was cleared to the Bulldogs from Carlton and the dispute was resolved. In 1968, 1970 and 1972, Robertson was a member of Carlton's premiership sides and was a serviceable player. He had played 125 games and kicked 86 goals for Carlton between 1966 and 1974, before moving to Footscray (in an ironic twist) late in 1974, only notching up 4 games and 1 goal. Ian William Robertson (28 April 1950 – 24 August 2015) was a South African rugby union player. Playing career Robertson attended the Prince Edward School in Salisbury (now Harare) and in 1968 represented Rhodesia at the annual Craven Week tournament for schoolboys. The following year, as a nineteen year old, he made his debut in senior rugby for Rhodesia against South West Africa. Robertson went on to represent Rhodesia regularly from 1969 until 1979, but for two excursions in South Africa. First in 1972 when he moved to Johannesburg and only managed to make the Transvaal B team. In 1975 he moved to Cape Town and joined the Villager Football Club. He however could not secure a regular place in the Western Province team. Ian Robertson is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Ballymun Kickhams club and for the Dublin county team. Robertson retired from inter-county football due to an injury in 2008 which dramatically affected his fluency of movement. He was part of the 2012 Dublin senior management team. He was a selector with the 2013 Dublin senior team. Playing career Robertson's final championship appearance was in Dublin's 2004 All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Kerry. He did appear for Dublin again but had to give up again due to injury. Ian MacDonald Robertson (30 October 1912 – 21 July 2005) was a Scottish High Court of Justiciary judge who contributed greatly to Scots law. Early life Robertson was born on 30 October 1912 in Edinburgh, the youngest of the six children of Margaret Eva Wilson and James Robertson. His father was 66 when he was born. He was educated at Merchiston Castle School between 1926 and 1931 and had an outstanding school career, being appointed a Senior Prefect in his final year. He was also a notable sportsman, captaining the 1st XV rugby union side, and playing for the 1st XI cricket team. He then attended Balliol College, Oxford, following in the footsteps of his older brother Sir James Robertson. Major General Ian Argyll Robertson of Brackla (17 July 1913 – 10 January 2010) was a senior British Army officer. Military career Educated at Winchester College and Trinity College, Oxford, Robertson was commissioned into the Seaforth Highlanders on 13 July 1934. He served, on a temporary basis, as commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion, the Seaforth Highlanders during the Italian campaign of the Second World War and then took part in the Normandy landings in June 1944 and subsequent campaign in North West Europe. After the war he became commanding officer of the 1st Battalion, the Seaforth Highlanders in 1954 and saw action during the Aden Emergency. Ian Robertson Porteous (9 October 1930 – 30 January 2011) was a Scottish mathematician at the University of Liverpool and an educator on Merseyside. He is best known for three books on geometry and modern algebra. In Liverpool he and Peter Giblin are known for their registered charity ''Mathematical Education on Merseyside'' which promotes enthusiasm for mathematics through sponsorship of an annual competition.
