The 1996 Major League Soccer College Draft was held on March 4, 1996, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Major League Soccer
Major League Soccer (MLS) is a men's professional soccer league sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation, which represents the sport's highest level in the United States. The league comprises 29 teams—26 in the U.S. and 3 in Canada—since the 2023 season. The league is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan. Major League Soccer is the most recent in a series of men's premier professional national soccer leagues established in the United States and Canada. Brandon Pollard
Brandon Pollard (born October 9, 1973, in Richmond, Virginia) is a retired American soccer player who played as a defender. He is probably best known for having his career ended by a vicious tackle from Dema Kovalenko. Pollard was a standout player with the University of Virginia and was a member of the United States men's national soccer team at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Youth Pollard grew up in Virginia where he attended J.R. Tucker High School. He was a four-time All Colonial District, and All State soccer player as well as a Parade Magazine All American as a senior. After graduating from high school, Pollard attended the University of Virginia where he was a defender on the men's soccer team. Jeff Cassar
Jeff Cassar (born February 2, 1974) is an American soccer coach and former goalkeeper who last coached Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer. Playing career Cassar played college soccer at Florida International University, where he was roommates with Steve Ralston. Following his graduation, he was selected eighth overall in the 1996 MLS College Draft by the Dallas Burn. Although Cassar made the team, Mark Dodd took firm hold of the starting position, and Cassar only appeared in two games that season. After spending all of the 1997 season injured with a torn ACL, Cassar was selected tenth overall in the 1997 MLS Expansion Draft by the Miami Fusion. Cassar started much of the Fusion's inaugural season, appearing in twenty-one games, all starts, and compiling a GAA of 1.95. Guillermo Jara
Guillermo Jara (born October 20, 1973, in Sacramento, California) is an American former soccer forward who played four seasons in Major League Soccer. Youth Jara grew up in Sacramento, California, attending Christian Brothers High School where he was a 1991 ''Parade'' magazine high school all-American. Jara also played club soccer with the Tri-Valley Soccer Club. He then played four years of college soccer at University of San Diego, from 1992 to 1995. He was the ''Soccer America'' magazine Freshman of the Year when he finished second in the US in assists and tied for third in the points list. LA Galaxy, also known as the Los Angeles Galaxy, are an American professional soccer club based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Paul Keegan (born 30 December 1972) is an Irish professional footballer. Keegan was the first Irishman to play in Major League Soccer in the United States. Keegan joined St Patrick's Athletic from schoolboy football team Crumlin United, where he broke the scoring record for the club with 33 goals in 29 games in 2001. In 1992, after his first year with Pat's and Brian Kerr's successful side, Keegan accepted the offer of a soccer scholarship by Boston College where he learned his trade under the tutelage of renowned coach Ed Kelly. The New England Revolution is an American professional soccer club based in the Greater Boston area that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS), in the Eastern Conference of the league. It is one of the ten charter clubs of MLS, having competed in the league since its inaugural season. Chris Snitko (born January 24, 1973), is a retired U.S. soccer goalkeeper (football), goalkeeper who was the 1995 ISAA Goalkeeper of the Year. He then spent six seasons in Major League Soccer and earned five cap (sports), caps with the United States U-23 men's national soccer team. Youth Snitko, though born in Hackensack, New Jersey, grew up in Anaheim, California.
