1996 Canadian Figure Skating Championships
The 1996 Canadian Figure Skating Championships took place from February 7 to 11 in Ottawa, Ontario. It is an annual figure skating competition held by Skate Canada, the nation's figure skating governing body. Skaters competed at the senior, junior, and novice levels in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. ''Cathy'' is an American gag-a-day comic strip, drawn by Cathy Guisewite from 1976 until 2010. The comic follows Cathy, a woman who struggles through the "four basic guilt groups" of life—food, love, family, and work. The strip gently pokes fun at the lives and foibles of modern women. The strip debuted on November 22, 1976, and appeared in over 1,400 newspapers at its peak. The strips have been compiled into more than 20 books. Three television specials were also created. Josée Chouinard
Josée Chouinard (born August 21, 1969) is a Canadian former competitive figure skater. She is the 1996 Champions Series Final bronze medallist and a three-time Canadian national champion (1991, 1993–1994). She finished in the top ten at two Winter Olympics. Jennifer Robinson (born December 2, 1976) is a Canadian former competitive figure skater. She is a six-time national champion and finished 7th at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Derek Larkin Schmidt (born January 23, 1968) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the Kansas Attorney General from 2011 to 2023. A lance is a spear designed to be used by a mounted warrior or cavalry soldier (lancer). In ancient and medieval warfare, it evolved into the leading weapon in cavalry charges, and was unsuited for throwing or for repeated thrusting, unlike similar weapons of the javelin and pike family typically used by infantry. Yvan Desjardins (born October 6, 1975) is a Canadian figure skating coach and former competitor. He reached the free skate at two ISU Championships. Career Desjardins competed at the 1993 and 1994 World Junior Championships, qualifying to the free skate at both events. His best final result, 11th, came in 1993 in Seoul, South Korea. After retiring from competition, Desjardins became a coach, based in Rosemère, Quebec. In August 2015, he became only the 13th person to achieve Level 5 in Skate Canada's National Coaching Certification Program.
