1995 British National Track Championships
The 1995 British National Track Championships were a series of track cycling competitions held from 29 July – 5 August 1995 at the Manchester Velodrome. The Championships were organised by the British Cycling Federation. It was the first championships held at the new Manchester Velodrome following British Cycling moving their headquarters to the National Cycling Centre, Manchester, in November 1994. The City of Edinburgh Racing Club is a cycling club based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The club is said to be the most successful club in British track cycling; its members having won numerous national and international medals. Formation The club was formed in November 1982 with affiliation to the East of Scotland Cycling Association and the Scottish Cyclists Union. The club was formed by Brian Annable in response to a lack of Scottish success in cycling. Success at the junior level in 1982 had led to the belief that, with specialised coaching, training and competition, success at British and International mince level could be achievable. At the time no such provision was available to Scottish cyclists and the club was formed with the intention of meeting that need. Chris Newton
Christopher Malcolm Newton (born 29 September 1973, Middlesbrough, England) is a road and track racing cyclist. Newton is a multiple world champion and triple Olympic medalist. Biography Newton went to Linthorpe Juniors and Boynton Comprehensive in Teesside, and, aged 13, started cycling with Teesside Clarion. He is an alumnus of the University of Teesside in Middlesbrough. Newton first competed in the Commonwealth Games in 1994, winning the silver medal in the Team Pursuit with Tony Doyle, Rob Hayles and Bryan Steel. He was a member of the British Team Pursuit squad which finished tenth at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. The team included Matt Illingworth, Rob Hayles and Bryan Steel. British National Team Pursuit Championships
The British National Team Pursuit Championships are held annually as part of the British National Track Championships organized by British Cycling. Prior to 1996, there were two separate team pursuit championship events for amateur and professional riders. A women's championship was later added, competing over a shorter 3 km distance with three riders, until 2013 when this was increased to 4 km with 4 riders as in the men's event. Bryan Steel
Bryan Steel (born 5 January 1969) is an English former professional racing cyclist. Cycling career Steel represented Great Britain at the 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics. He represented England in the individual pursuit and won a bronze medal in the 4,000 metres team pursuit, at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand. Four years later at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, he won a silver medal in the team pursuit and competed in the individual pursuit. Eight years later he won a third Commonwealth Games medal when winning a silver medal in the team pursuit at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Graeme Obree
Graeme Obree (born 11 September 1965), nicknamed The Flying Scotsman, is a Scottish racing cyclist who twice broke the world hour record, in July 1993 and April 1994, and was the individual pursuit world champion in 1993 and 1995. He was known for his unusual riding positions and for the ''Old Faithful'' bicycle he built which included parts from a washing machine. He joined a professional team in France but was fired before his first race. He also competed in the men's individual pursuit at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Obree has created some radical innovations in bicycle design and cycling position but has had problems with the cycling authorities banning the riding positions his designs required.
