1995 Australian Touring Car Championship - Round 1 - Sandown
The 1995 Sandown ATCC round was the opening round of the 1995 Australian Touring Car Championship. It was held on the weekend of 3 to 5 February at Sandown Raceway in Melbourne, Victoria. It consisted of two 28-lap races and the "Dash for Cash" - a 3-lap sprint for the fastest 10 qualifiers, starting positions for the "dash" were drawn at random. Pole was taken by John Bowe and the overall round was won by Larry Perkins. Background In pre-season testing, defending champion Mark Skaife sustained injuries which forced him out of the opening round. Gibson Motorsport made no effort to replace Skaife for this round, instead leaving Jim Richards as the sole Gibson Motorsport competitor on the grid for the weekend. The Holden Commodore (VR) is an executive car which was produced by Holden from 1993 to 1995. It was the third iteration of the second generation of the Holden Commodore. The VR range included the luxury variants, Holden Commodore Berlina (VR) and Holden Calais (VR) and a commercial model, the Holden Ute (VR). Overview Launched in July 1993 and sold until April 1995, the VR series came with an updated, sleeker and more modern design, as well as safety enhancements such as Anti-lock braking system, anti-lock brakes (ABS). Lansvale Racing Team, also known as Lansvale Smash Repairs Racing was an Australian motor racing team that competed in Australian touring car racing between 1986 and 2003. History The team first appeared at the 1986 Bathurst 1000 when Sydney crash repair proprietors and Sports Sedan racers Trevor Ashby and Steve Reed debuted an ex Tony Mulvihill Holden Commodore VK. The Ford Falcon (EB) is a full-sized car that was produced by Ford Australia from 1991 to 1993. It was the second iteration of the fifth generation of the Falcon and also included the Ford Fairmont (EB)—the luxury-oriented version. It launched shortly before the Holden Commodore VP. Introduction and changes Visually, the 1991 EB Falcon remained nearly identical to its predecessor, including carrying over the 3.9-litre Ford straight-six engine and four-speed M85LE automatic. Daily Planet Racing was an Australian motor racing team that competed in the Australian Touring Car Championship and V8 Supercars between 1992 and 2000. History Daily Planet Racing was formed in 1992 by Daily Planet proprietor John Trimbole. Initially competing in the Holden HQ series, a Holden VL Commodore was purchased from Garry Rogers Motorsport. For the Bathurst 1000, two cars were entered with a second VL leased from Perkins Engineering. Only the latter started, with the other heavily damaged in practice. Pinnacle Motorsport was an Australian motor racing team that competed in Australian touring car racing in 1994 and 1995. History Pinnacle Motorsport first appeared in seven rounds of the 1994 Australian Touring Car Championship with Greg Crick and Tony Scott sharing the driving of Peter Brock's 1993 Advantage Racing built Holden Commodore VP. Allan Grice
Allan Maxwell Grice (born 21 October 1942), known to motor-racing fans as "Gricey", is an Australian former racing driver and politician, most famous for twice winning the prestigious Bathurst 1000 (1986 and 1990), and as a privateer driver of a Holden in the Australian Touring Car Championship. Grice was educated at The Armidale School in northern NSW. Grice also had a successful second career as a politician and Member for Broadwater in the Queensland Parliament from 1992 to 2001. The Holden Commodore (VP) is a full-size car that was produced by Holden from 1991 to 1993. It was the second iteration of the second generation of the Commodore. Its range included the luxury variants, Holden Berlina (VP) and Holden Calais (VP). Overview The VP series was released in September 1991 with mainly cosmetic and feature changes to the outgoing VN Series Commodore. It launched shortly after the Ford EB Falcon. Longhurst Racing was an Australian motor racing team that competed in the V8 Supercar series between 1995 and 1999. History At the end of 1994, Tony Longhurst sold his share in LoGaMo Racing, the team he had established in 1988 with Frank Gardner, to Gardner and Terry Morris. This was driven by Longhurst's desire to remain in the Australian Touring Car Championship series while his fellow shareholders wanted to compete in Super Touring. Tony Longhurst
Anthony Lawrence Longhurst (born 1 October 1957 in Sydney) is an Australian racing driver and former Australian Champion water skier. He is most noted for his career in the Australian Touring Car Championship and V8 Supercar series. Longhurst is a two-time winner of the Bathurst 1000, winning the event in 1988 with Tomas Mezera and in 2001 with Mark Skaife, and is one of only five drivers to win Bathurst in both a Ford and a Holden (the others being Craig Lowndes, Steven Richards , Jamie Whincup and Chaz Mostert). Peter Geoffrey Brock (26 February 1945 – 8 September 2006), known as "Peter Perfect", "The King of the Mountain", or simply "Brocky", was an Australian motor racing driver. Brock was most often associated with Holden for almost 40 years, although he raced vehicles of other manufacturers including BMW, Ford, Volvo, Porsche and Peugeot.
