1994 Canadian Senior Curling Championships
The 1994 Canadian Senior Curling Championships, Canada's national championship for curlers over 50, were held March 19 to 26, 1994 at the Hillcrest Sports Centre in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Alberta, skipped by Cordella "Red" Schwengler won the women's event, defeating Newfoundland's Sue Anne Bartlett in the final. The Alberta rink had been adopted as the fan favourites in the final, as their third Betty Clarke was a native-Saskatchewanian. The team went undefeated in the round robin before losing their last two games, settling for third place heading into the playoffs. The opposing skip, Sue Anne Bartlett, was playing in her first senior championship. At the time, she had a record 12 appearances at the Scott Tournament of Hearts Canadian women's championships, and had lost just one round robin match. Canadian Senior Curling Championships
The Canadian Senior Curling Championships are an annual bonspiel held to determine the national champions in senior curling for Canada. Seniors are defined as being people over the age of 50. The championship teams play at the World Senior Curling Championships the following year. The event's first committee was established in October 1964. Frank Sargent was an original member of the senior championship committee, and believed the event would attract former Brier competitors and give seniors a place to compete which had not existed. The inaugural Canadian Seniors Curling Championship was hosted in Port Arthur in March 1965. It used a minimum age of 55 for competitors, and had the Seagram Company The Seagram Company Ltd. Arthur L. Lobel (born c. 1935) is a Canadian curler from Montreal, Quebec. He was the third of the 1977 Brier Champion team, representing Quebec. He is a member of the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame. Truro (Mi'kmaq: ''Wagobagitik''; Scottish Gaelic: ''Truru'') is a town in central Nova Scotia, Canada. Kenora, Ontario
Kenora (), previously named Rat Portage (french: Portage-aux-Rats), is a city situated on the Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada, close to the Manitoba boundary, and about east of Winnipeg by road. It is the seat of Kenora District. The history of the name extends beyond the time of white settlers arriving in the region. The name Rat Portage had its origin in the Ojibwa name Waszush Onigum, which roughly translated, means portage to the country of the muskrats. A shortened and somewhat corrupted version, Rat Portage, was adopted by the Hudson’s Bay Company in naming their post, then located on Old Fort Island on the Winnipeg River. When the post was moved to the mainland and a town grew up around it, the name Rat Portage was assumed by the community.
