Noel Wimalasena
Deshamanya Noel Wimalasena (23 March 1914 – 5 May 1994) was a Sri Lankan lawyer, politician and the first Governor of Sabaragamuwa. Early life and education Nanediri Wimalasena was born on 23 March 1914 in Kandy, Sri Lanka. He attended Ananda College, Colombo, the Ceylon University College and the Ceylon Law College. Political career In 1946 Wimalasena was elected to the Kandy Municipal Council, serving as Deputy Mayor in 1946 and as Mayor in 1963. In March 1960 he ran as the UNP candidate for parliament in the Senkadagala Electoral District. He was successful, securing over 48% of the vote. However, as neither of the major political parties managed to obtain a sufficient majority in the election a new election was called. At the July 1960 election Wimalasena lost by a narrow margin of 25 votes to the SLFP candidate, Shelton Ranaraja. Susil Moonesinghe
Susil Moonesinghe (11 February 1930 – 30 November 2012) was a Sri Lankan lawyer, politician, diplomat and former chairman of State Trading Wholesale Company Ltd. A former chief minister of the Western Provincial Council and a member of parliament, he was Sri Lankan Ambassador to Iran. The brother of Anil Moonesinghe and the son of Piyadas Moonesinghe, he was educated at the Royal College, Colombo. His paternal grandmother was the sister of Anagarika Dharmapala, daughter of Don Carolis Hewavitharana and granddaughter of Andiris Perera Dharmagunawardhana. He began his political career by contesting, unsuccessfully, the Polgahawela constituency in the 1960 general election from the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna. During the 1970 general election, he was appointed organiser for the Southern Province by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Amarasiri Dodangoda
Amarasiri Dodangoda (18 October 1941 – 30 May 2009) was a Sri Lankan politician, the former Minister of Justice and Law Reforms (2005–2009) and the second Chief Minister of the Southern Province (1993–1994). Early life Dodangoda was born on 18 October 1941 to a businessman William Appuhamy and Punyawathie Goonesekera in Dodangoda, Galle. His had his primary education at Kukulalawatte Junior School, Ginimallegaha, Baddegama and had his tertiary level education both at Baddegama Ratnasara Vidyalaya and Richmond College, Galle. He graduated from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya in 1963 with a B.A. degree and began his profession as a teacher at Vidyaloka Pirivena, Galle. Then he joined the Government service as an Education Officer in the latter part of the 1960s and this was followed by his entry to Sri Lanka Law College in 1971. Jayatilake Podinilame
H. Jayatilake Podinilame (1947/48 – 28 April 2013) was a Sri Lankan politician who served as the 3rd Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa. He was appointed in March 1993 succeeding Abeyratne Pilapitiya and was Chief Minister until June 1998. He was succeeded by Kantha Gunatilleke after a period of vacancy. Podinilame also served as the Minister of Industries, Trade and Transport in 1991. He was also the Northwestern Development Minister of the UNP Government in 2000. Mallawa Arachchige Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, MP, is a Sri Lankan politician and a member of the 15th Parliament of Sri Lanka representing Kurunegala. He is currently the Cabinet Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife and Minister of Buddha Sasana. He was the former Cabinet Minister of Food Protection. Suppiah Sharvananda
Deshamanya Suppiah Sharvananda (also spelt Suppiah Sarvananda) was the 37th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka and the first Governor of the Western Province. Early life Sharvanda was born on 22 February 1923 in Kayts, Jaffna District. He attended St. Anthony's English School in Kayts before transferring to Jaffna Hindu College at Grade 6. After completing his secondary education he studied at Colombo Law College, qualifying as a lawyer in 1946. During his time at the Law College he also obtained a BA degree from the University of London. Legal career As a lawyer Sharvanda worked on civil cases and served under such eminent lawyers as Dr. H. W. Thambiah QC, S. J. V. Chelvanayakam QC, and H. V. Perera QC. He was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1974. The Western Province ( si, බස්නාහිර පළාත ''Basnāhira Paḷāta''; ta, மேல் மாகாணம் ''Mael Mākāṇam'') is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka, the first level administrative division of the country. Uva Province, Sri Lanka
Uva Province ( si, ඌව පළාත, Uva Paḷāta, ta, ஊவா மாகாணம், Uvā Mākāṇam) is Sri Lanka's second least populated province, with 1,259,880 people, created in 1896. It consists of two districts: Badulla and Moneragala. The provincial capital is Badulla. Uva is bordered by the Eastern, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces. Its major tourist attractions are Dunhinda falls, Diyaluma Falls, Rawana Falls, the Yala National Park (lying partly in the Southern and Eastern Provinces) and Gal Oya National Park (lying partly in the Eastern Province).
