1993 European Amateur Team Championship
The 1993 European Amateur Team Championship took place 30 June – 4 July at Golf Club Mariánské Lázně, later renamed Royal Golf Club Mariánské Lázně, 6 kilometres from the Mariánské Lázně town (called Marienbad in German) in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. It was the 18th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The hosting Golf Club Mariánské Lázně was later renamed Royal Golf Club Mariánské Lázně. Its first 9-hole course, located 6 kilometres from the Mariánské Lázně town (called Marienbad in German) in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic, opened in 1905 and was extended to 18 holes in 1935. The championship course was set up with par 72 over 6,709 yards. The 1991 European Amateur Team Championship took place 26–30 June at Real Club de la Puerta de Hierro in Madrid, Spain. It was the 17th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The hosting club was established in 1895 as a polo club. Its first 18-hole golf course, located in the northwest of Madrid, Spain, in the district of Moncloa, 5 kilometres from the city center, designed by Harry Colt, opened in 1914. Tom Simpson designed a new 9-hole course in the 1940s and John Harris designed another nine holes in 1968. The two 18-hole courses at Puerta de Hierro had previously hosted the Open de España and Madrid Open on the European Tour and the 1970 Eisenhower Trophy. Raymond Burns (golfer)
Raymond Burns (born 8 October 1973) is a Northern Irish professional golfer. Burns was born in Banbridge, County Down and turned professional in 1993 after representing Great Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup. He missed out on qualifying for the European Tour at qualifying school at the end of 1993, and decided to play on the second tier Challenge Tour in 1994. He won twice during his rookie season and topped the Challenge Tour Rankings to secure his card on the European Tour for 1995. Burns finished 8th on his European Tour début at the Dubai Desert Classic and maintained his place on the European Tour through the end of the 1998 season. A loss of form that season saw him return to the Challenge Tour in 1999, where he again struggled, failing to make the cut in any of his 11 starts. Christian Georges Cévaër (born 10 April 1970) is a French professional golfer. Amateur career Cévaër was born in Noumea, New Caledonia. He attended the Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California. He then earned a golf scholarship to Stanford University. He won the Pac-10 Championship twice. He also won the 1989 French Amateur Championship. Iain Pyman (born 3 March 1973) is an English professional golfer. Early life and amateur career Pyman was born in Whitby. He won the Carris Trophy in 1991, and played in a winning Jacques Léglise Trophy team the same year. In 1993 he won The Amateur Championship by defeating Paul Page after 37 holes at Royal Portrush, and was the leading amateur in The Open Championship at Royal St George's. He played in the Walker Cup at the end of 1993. Professional career Pyman turned professional in 1994. Ian David Garbutt (born 3 April 1972) is an English professional golfer. Garbutt was born in Doncaster. He started playing golf at the age of 8, and by the age of 16, he had become a scratch player. He won the English Amateur at the age of 18, defeating Gary Evans in the final. Garbutt turned professional in 1992, and played on the European and Challenge Tours, sometimes splitting his time between both, until the end of 2008. Stuart Cage (born 16 July 1973) is an English professional golfer. Cage won the English Amateur in 1992 and played for Great Britain & Ireland in the 1993 Walker Cup. Warren Bennett
Warren Bennett (born 20 August 1971) is an English professional golfer. Career Bennett was born in Ashford, Surrey and is the son of former footballer Peter Bennett. In 1994, he won the Australian Amateur and was the leading amateur at The Open Championship. He turned professional later that year. Bennett failed to win a European Tour card at Qualifying School in either 1994 or 1995, and missed much of 1996 with a twisted vertebrae.
