1993 Allan Cup
The 1993 Allan Cup was the Canadian national senior ice hockey championship for the 1992–93 Senior "AAA" season. The event was hosted by the Quesnel Kangaroos in Quesnel, British Columbia. The 1993 tournament marked the 85th time that the Allan Cup has been awarded. The 1993 Allan Cup was an absolute rarity, as for the first time a team from the Yukon Territory won the Allan Cup. Absent from the tournament were any teams from Eastern Canada. Senior Ice Hockey
Senior hockey refers to amateur or semi-professional ice hockey competition. There are no age restrictions for Senior players, who typically consist of those whose Junior eligibility has expired. Senior hockey leagues operate under the jurisdiction of Hockey Canada or USA Hockey. They are not affiliated in any way with professional hockey leagues. Many former professional players play Senior hockey after their pro careers are over. The top Senior AAA teams in Canada compete annually for the Allan Cup. Quesnel Kangaroos
The Quesnel Kangaroos was an intermediate and senior ice hockey team in Quesnel, British Columbia that played as an Intermediate team at least as far back as 1965. In 1979, they became a member of the upstart BCSHL. After the demise of the BCSHL (after just two seasons), the Kangaroos continued on as either an independent Senior or Intermediate club. In 1993 the team played in the Allan Cup final but lost to the Whitehorse Huskies in the final game. Quesnel (Kee-nel in French) is a city located in the Cariboo Regional District of British Columbia, Canada. Located nearly evenly between the cities of Prince George and Williams Lake, it is on the main route to northern British Columbia and the Yukon. Allan Cup
The Allan Cup is the trophy awarded annually to the national senior amateur men's ice hockey champions of Canada. It was donated by Sir Montagu Allan of Ravenscrag, Montreal, and has been competed for since 1909. The current champions are the Lacombe Generals, who captured the 2019 Allan Cup in Lacombe, Alberta. The top amateur teams left the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association, which allowed professionals, to form the new Inter-Provincial Amateur Hockey Union (IPAHU), a purely amateur league. Stony Plain Eagles
The Stony Plain Eagles are a senior ice hockey team based in Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada. Founded in the 1930s, the team moved up to the Senior AAA ranks in 1992. They played in the Allan Cup Hockey West until 2020. The Eagles were the 1999 Allan Cup National Senior champions of Canada. History In 1987, the Eagles would win both the Alberta and Western Canada Intermediate "A" Championship, but lost the Hardy Cup Intermediate National Championship in straight games to Miramichi Gagnon Packers. Warroad Lakers
The Warroad Lakers were an American Senior ice hockey team from Warroad, Minnesota. The Lakers played in various Manitoba AHA and Thunder Bay AHA senior and intermediate leagues and were granted special eligibility for the Allan Cup and Hardy Cup by the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association. Whitehorse Huskies
The Whitehorse Huskies are a Senior "AAA" ice hockey team that is based in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. They are one-time Allan Cup National Champions. History In 1993 the Whitehorse Huskies won the Allan Cup by defeating the Quesnel Kangaroos in the Final. After taking the coveted Allan Cup back to the Yukon, the team hung up their skates. The Huskies are the only teams from the Yukon, Northwest Territories, or Nunavut to have ever won the Allan Cup. In 2009, after a 16-year hiatus, Hockey Canada approved the revival of the Huskies, and the team was subsequently sanctioned by the British Columbia Amateur Hockey Association to compete during the 2009-10 season.
