1992 VFA Season
The 1992 Victorian Football Association season was the 111th season of the Australian rules football competition. The premiership was won by the Sandringham Football Club, after it defeated Williamstown in the Grand Final on 20 September by 44 points; it was Sandringham's fourth top-division premiership. Premiership season In the home-and-away season, each team played eighteen games; the top five then contested the finals under the McIntyre Final Five system. Finals were played at North Port Oval, and the Grand Final was played at Princes Park. Ladder Finals Awards *The joint-leading goalkickers for the home-and-away season were Frank Rugolo (Sandringham) and Jamie Shaw, who each kicked 73 goals. Victorian Country Football League
AFL Victoria Country is an Australian rules football governing body with jurisdiction over the state of Victoria outside metropolitan Melbourne on behalf of AFL Victoria. As well as administering and promoting the code in the regions, it often arbitrates disputes in areas such as player clearances and club movements between country leagues, and may also be called upon as a higher authority of appeal. The organisation was formed as a result of a merger between Victorian Country Football League (VCFL) and AFL Victoria in November 2012. Sandringham Football Club
The Sandringham Football Club, nicknamed The Zebras, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne which was formed in 1929 and plays in the Victorian Football League (VFL) which was formerly called the Victorian Football Association (VFA). History The Sandringham Football Club was admitted to the VFA competition (now VFL) for the 1929 season, though the first moves to establish a semi-professional football team from the Sandringham region began two years earlier. The club was formed in that time as a three-way merge of the existing amateur clubs in the area, Sandringham Amateurs, Black Rock FC and Hampton Amateurs. Simon Clark (Australian Footballer)
Simon Clark (born 16 February 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Clark was a ruckman, recruited to Richmond from Notting Hill. He made 27 league appearances for Richmond, 12 in 1986, 11 in 1987 and four in 1988. Following his career at Richmond, Clark played for Springvale in the Victorian Football Association, later the Victorian Football League. He made an immediate impression at Springvale in 1989, with a best and fairest and fourth placing in the J. J. Liston Trophy. In the 1992 VFA season he finished equal second behind Joe Rugolo in the Liston Trophy, then in 1993 was equal third. He was a member of Springvale's 1995 premiership team, in the final season of VFA football and would be involved in three further premierships. Jamie Shaw (footballer)
Jamie Shaw (born 19 February 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Preston in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A former Keon Park player, Shaw made his VFA debut for Preston in the 1985 season. He became a prolific full forward, and in 1986 won the VFL's leading goal-kicker award, now known as the Jim 'Frosty' Miller Medal, with 145 goals, including eighteen goals in one match against Camberwell. In 1987, Shaw moved to Fitzroy in the VFL. In his debut against Geelong at Princes Park and equaled Max George's club record of five goals on debut. From just six kicks, Shaw managed five goals and a behind, helping Fitzroy beat Geelong. He played only one other game for Fitzroy, and returned to Preston at the end of the season. Joe Rugolo
Joe Rugolo (born 2 September 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1980s. Rugolo was an Assumption College recruit and spent three seasons with Melbourne. His brother Frank was on the Melbourne list at the same time but they never played a game together. A ruckman, Rugolo played with Sandringham after leaving Melbourne. In 1992, a premiership year, he won a J. J. Liston Trophy, having narrowly missed out on it the previous two seasons. Brad Lloyd
Brad Lloyd (born 16 September 1975) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. Playing career Early playing career Lloyd, a midfielder from Victorian Football League (VFL) side Williamstown, had an impressive 1997 in the Hawthorn reserves and won the Gardiner Medal. Hawthorn Recruited by Hawthorn at the 1997 AFL draft, Lloyd made his senior AFL debut in round two of the 1998 AFL season, when Hawthorn lost to Port Adelaide in Paul Salmon's 250th league game. Lloyd appeared in the last six rounds of the year and played briefly in 1999 but in all could only manage 11 games for the seniors while at Hawthorn and kicked a total of three goals. Ian Rickman
Ian Rickman (born 24 March 1963) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1980s. Rickman, who was of a large build, arrived at Footscray from Preston. He spent three seasons with Footscray and put in his most notable performance in 1984 when he kicked six goals against North Melbourne at Arden Street. Williamstown was his next destination and he went on to have a successful career with the VFA club, mostly as a half forward flanker and at full-forward. A dual premiership player, Rickman was a member of Williamstown's 1986 and 1990 Grand Final winning teams. He also twice won the VFA award for being the league's leading goal-kicker, now known as the Jim 'Frosty' Miller Medal, in 1989 after kicking 125 goals and then with 82 in 1992. Michael Ford (Australian Footballer)
Michael Ford (born 11 October 1962) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray and St Kilda in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). Ford, a defender from Bairnsdale, was already 22 when he started his AFL career. He played finals in his first year and appeared in a further six seasons for Footscray. St Kilda secured his services in the 1992 Pre-season Draft, with pick 10, but he would only play two senior games for his new club. He spent the next stage of his career at Sandringham and was a member of their 1992 premiership side. In 1994 he coached Oakleigh, in what would be their final season in the Victorian Football Association. A knee injury forced him to retire as a player.
