1992 UK Athletics Championships
The 1992 UK Athletics Championships was the national championship in outdoor track and field for the United Kingdom held at Sheffield Hallam UCA Stadium, Sheffield. It was the only time the city hosted the championships. The men's and women's racewalking events were dropped from the programme for this edition. The women's hammer throw was also not contested after featured for the first time in 1991. It was the sixteenth edition of the competition limited to British athletes only, launched as an alternative to the AAA Championships, which was open to foreign competitors. However, due to the fact that the calibre of national competition remained greater at the AAA event, the UK Championships this year were not considered the principal national championship event by some statisticians, such as the National Union of Track Statisticians (NUTS). Craig Winrow
Craig Nicholas Winrow (born 22 December 1971 in Ormskirk) is a male retired English middle-distance runner competing primarily in the 800 metres. Early life Winrow was educated at Burscough Priory High School in Burscough, Lancashire. As a 14 year old student in 1986, he "shattered" the Lancashire Schools' County Athletics Championships in the event, finishing with a time of 2 minutes and 1.3 seconds, beating the previous best by 3 seconds. At the age of 15, he was running in 49 seconds and in 1 minute 51.8 seconds, which was almost level with the UK age-best for his age group. By the age of 16, he was being sponsored by local computer firm Southport Hi-Tech, where he planned to join on a youth training scheme after leaving school. As a young athlete, he looked up to Steve Ovett and was aiming to compete in the 1992 Summer Olympics. Curtis Robb
Curtis Robb (born 7 June 1972) is a former British middle distance runner, who competed at two consecutive Summer Olympics for Great Britain, in 1992 and 1996. Running career Robb first began running with Liverpool Harriers & AC, a racing team based in Liverpool, at the age of 12. From the age of 17, he was coached by Ernie Gallagher, a former miler who had raced Roger Bannister in the 1950s. Tony Jarrett
Anthony Alexander Jarrett (born 13 August 1968 in Enfield, London) is a male former sprint and hurdling athlete from England. Athletics career He was a silver medalist in the 110 metres hurdles at the World Championships in 1993 and 1995, and at the European Championships in 1990, and won the gold medal in the event at the Commonwealth Games in 1990 and 1998. Jarrett came fourth in the 110m hurdles at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, missing out on a bronze medal by 1000th of a second to Jack Pierce of the United States. Darren Campbell
Darren Andrew Campbell, (born 12 September 1973) is a British former sprint athlete. He was the sprint coach at Wasps Rugby Club for the 2015–16 season. He competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres, as well as the 4 × 100 metres relay. Campbell was a promising junior athlete and won a number of medals at the World and European Junior Championships. He spent two years away from athletics, playing professional football but returned in 1995, attending his first Olympics shortly afterwards. He began to compete as part of the British 4 × 100 m relay team and between 1997 and 2000 he won two World Championship medals, a gold medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, and set the European record in the event. Jason Livingston
Jason Livingston (born 17 March 1971 in Croydon, London) is a former sprinter from the United Kingdom. Livingston won the 60 metres sprint gold medal at the 1992 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Genoa, in a time of 6.53 seconds. He also represented Britain in the 100 metres at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo, where he finished 5th in his heat in a time of 10.57 seconds. In 1992, Livingston was selected to be part of the British team for the Olympic Games in Barcelona, but was sent home before the games began after failing a drugs test. Phylis Smith (née Watt, born 29 September 1965) is a female former sprinter from Great Britain who won an Olympic bronze medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay in Barcelona 1992. In 1994, she won a European Championships bronze medal in the 400 metres. Career Smith was born in Birmingham, England.
