The 1991 Sunbelt Independent Soccer League was an American soccer season run by the Sunbelt Independent Soccer League. Regular season * Regulation win = 6 points * Shootout win (SW) = 4 points * Shootout loss (SL) = 2 points * Bonus Points (BP): 1 point for each goal scored up to 3 per game. Having the best record in the league, the Rogues expected to play New Mexico Chiles in Memphis, but league commissioner Francisco Marcos moved the series to Albuquerque, New Mexico based on the higher number of spectators at Chiles games. When the Rogues withdrew from the playoffs in protest, Marcos shuffled the teams in the semifinal round. United Soccer League (USL), formerly known as United Soccer Leagues, is a soccer league in the United States and Canada. It organizes several men's and women's leagues, both professional and amateur. Men's leagues currently organized are the USL Championship, USL League One, USL League Two, and the youth Super Y League. A new women's league, the USL W League, began play in 2022. David West is a retired American soccer goalkeeper who played professionally in the Continental Indoor Soccer League and National Professional Soccer League. On December 15, 1989, the Memphis Rogues of the American Indoor Soccer Association signed West. In 1990, Memphis moved to the Sunbelt Independent Soccer League. During the 1991 Sunbelt Independent Soccer League season, West and fellow Memphis goalkeeper Daniel Gonzalez were the top rated goalkeeper combo. David Pfeil
David Pfeil is a retired American soccer midfielder who played professionally in the USISL, Major Indoor Soccer League and Continental Indoor Soccer League. He was a member of the United States men's national under-20 soccer team at the 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship. Pfeil graduated from Kimball High School where he was a four year varsity soccer player. Pfeil attended Southern Methodist University, playing on the men’s soccer team from 1986 to 1990. In 1991, Pfeil joined the Dallas Rockets of the USISL. He played for them through 1994. In the fall of 1991, he signed with the Dallas Sidekicks of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Chris Veselka
Chris Veselka (born June 15, 1970) was an American soccer forward who played professionally in the United States and Germany. He was the 1994 USISL leading scorer with 30 goals in 13 games. Veselka spent one season, 1990, playing soccer at Florida International University. In the summer of 1989, he played for the Austin Sockadillos in the Southwest Independent Soccer League. Her returned for the 1990 season, scoring twelve goals in ten games. He placed second in the league in points. He returned to the Sockadillos for thirteen games in the 1991 summer season before moving to Germany to play for TuS Celle. He remained with TuS Celle until 1994 when he returned to the United States to sign with the Austin Lone Stars of USISL. He led the league in scoring with 30 goals in thirteen games. Gabe Garcia (soccer)
Gabriel "Gabe" Garcia is a retired American soccer forward who spent his entire career in the SISL and USISL. He won two USISL championships, both with the Greensboro Dynamo. Youth Garcia attended UNC Charlotte where he played on the men’s soccer team from 1988 to 1992. He was a 1991 second team All American. He finished his four seasons with 39 goals in 77 games. In October 2002, UNC-Charlotte retired Garcia’s jersey at the halftime of the Duke-Charlotte soccer game. Professional In 1991, Garcia, along with his twin brother Carlos, played for the San Antonio Generals during the SISL outdoor season. He scored eight goals in sixteen games that season. Ben Crawley (born May 6, 1971, in Austin, Texas) is a retired American soccer player. He was a member of the United States teams at both the 1987 FIFA U-16 World Championship and 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship but spent most of his professional career with lower division teams. He played five games in Major League Soccer with D.C. United in 1996. Youth Crawley spent his early youth in Portland, Oregon, moving with his family to Austin, Texas when he was six. He spent his early years as a goalkeeper in the Capital Soccer Club, but was put on the front line as a freshman in high school.
