This article includes an overview of trends in Latin music in the 1990s, namely in Ibero-America (including Spain and Portugal). This includes the rise and fall of various subgenres in Latin music from 1990 to 1999. Overview According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Latin music sales grew by almost 25% from 1996 to $490 million in 1997 ($909.818 million in 2022). There were 44.1 million Latin albums shipped in the United States. According to the RIAA, the increase in Latin music during this period is due to major record companies forming joint ventures with specialty indie labels familiar with the market, an increase of Latin artists on major labels providing them greater exposure, as well as an increase in radio stations playing Latin music which provided an expansion in Latin music awareness. Romance (Luis Miguel Album)
''Romance'' is the eighth studio album by Mexican singer Luis Miguel. It was released by WEA Latina on 19 November 1991. Although the production was originally intended as another collaboration with Juan Carlos Calderón, that plan was scrapped when Calderón was unable to compose songs for the album. Facing a new-material deadline in his recording contract, at his manager's suggestion Miguel chose bolero music for his next project. Mexican singer-songwriter Armando Manzanero was hired by WEA Latina to co-produce the album with Miguel. Recording began in August 1991 at Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood, California, with Bebu Silvetti the arranger. On the album Miguel covers twelve boleros, originally recorded from 1944 to 1986. ''A Medio Vivir'' ( en, Half Living) is the third studio album by the Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin, released by Sony Music and Columbia on September 12, 1995 (US). Commercial performance The album has sold over three million copies, worldwide. That number includes 1.3 million copies sold in Europe. ''A Medio Vivir'' was released at first in Latin America in 1995. It peaked at number eleven on the Top Latin Albums in the US. ''Me Amaras'' (English: ''You'll love me'') is the second studio album by Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin, released by Sony Discos on May 25, 1993. Writing and production The album was produced by Jose L. Quintana. Juan Carlos Calderón wrote all the songs for this album, except for a Spanish version of Laura Branigan's song "Self Control" titled "Que Día es Hoy", and a Spanish version of "Hooray! Hooray! Soft rock is a form of rock music that originated in the late 1960s in Southern California and the United Kingdom which smoothed over the edges of singer-songwriter and pop rock, relying on simple, melodic songs with big, lush productions. Soft rock was prevalent on the radio throughout the 1970s and eventually metamorphosed into a form of the synthesized music of adult contemporary in the 1980s. Alejandro Fernández Abarca (; born 24 April 1971) is a Mexican singer. Nicknamed as El Potrillo by the media and his fans, he has sold over 20 million records worldwide, making him one of the most successful Hispanic music artists.
