1990 International Rules Series
The 1990 International Rules Series was the fourth series between Australian rules footballers from Australia and Gaelic footballers from Ireland. The series took place in Australia and consisted of three test matches between the Australian and Irish international rules football teams. Ireland won the series by 2–1 and by 24 points over the three test matches. Martin Gavigan was Ireland vice-captain. Eugene McGee was in charge of the Irish team. Seán McCague was his assistant manager. Brendan Hackett trained the Irish team. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Gavin Brown (footballer)
Gavin Brown (born 25 September 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer who represented in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1980s and 1990s. Since retiring as a player he has been an assistant coach with Collingwood, Carlton and joined North Melbourne at the end of the 2013 season. He is currently serving as a development coach at North Melbourne. Brown was a hardworking and versatile player for the Magpies throughout his career. He was also able to play as a key forward and / or a defender. Gary O'Donnell (Australian Footballer)
Gary O'Donnell (born 12 May 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played 243 games for the Essendon Football Club between 1987 and 1998. He previously served as the assistant coach in the role Offensive Strategy Coach at the Brisbane Lions. Family O'Donnell is the son of Bev and Graeme O'Donnell. He is a member of a prominent Australian rules football family. Michael Mitchell (Australian Rules Footballer)
Michael Mitchell (born 25 November 1961) is an Indigenous former Australian rules footballer for the Claremont Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and the Richmond Football Club in the VFL/AFL. Mitchell was originally from Carnarvon, Western Australia (WA). Playing career Claremont Mitchell began his senior career with Claremont Football Club in the West Australian Football League. Tony McGuinness (footballer)
Anthony McGuinness (born 6 May 1964 in Adelaide, South Australia) is a former Australian rules football player who played for Footscray and in the VFL/AFL. His wife is former '' Nine News'' Adelaide presenter Georgina McGuinness. SANFL career McGuinness proved his skills early in his career with leading SANFL club Glenelg, winning the Magarey Medal in 1982 at the age of 18. Steve Malaxos
Stephen "Steve" Malaxos (born 19 June 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer and coach from Western Australia. While playing for Claremont in the WAFL, he won the 1984 Sandover Medal. Malaxos was an All-Australian with Claremont in 1986 and while he was with the West Coast Eagles in 1988. He was the inaugural fairest and best player at West Coast (1987), holds the Eagles' record for the most possessions in a game (48) and captained the club in 1990. Stewart Loewe
Stewart Loewe (born 23 May 1968) is a former Australian rules football player for the St Kilda Football Club. Nicknamed "Buckets" for his big hands and the way he was able to mark the ball with ease, Loewe debuted in 1986 for the St Kilda Football Club after being recruited from Mount Eliza. He played junior football for P. & C. Junior Football Club based in Delacombe Park, Frankston, where his large size helped him excel in the position of ruckman, though he was also known for his poor kicking that would plague him throughout his AFL career. Ricky Jackson (Australian Footballer)
Ricky Jackson (born 19 June 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne in the Victorian Football League/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). Jackson tried out initially at Richmond but the rover was not wanted by the club due to his size. Despite this rejection, he had a successful career with Melbourne where he became a handy goal scorer and topped their goal-kicking in 1988 with 43 goals. Most notably he kicked five goals in Melbourne's Preliminary Final win over Carlton that year, although he went goal-less from the forward pocket in their Grand Final loss. Milham Hanna
Milham Hanna (born 5 April 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer best known for his playing career with the Carlton Football Club in the 1980s and 1990s. John Gastev
John Gastev (previously John Gastevich, born 11 August 1964) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the VFL/AFL. A cult figure and "crowd favourite" standing at only and weighing just , Gastev began with West Perth in 1983. However, Gastev's career did not take off until 1985 when he gave up a career as an engraver to concentrate upon football full-time and became a mainstay for the Falcons before debuting with the West Coast Eagles in their inaugural season. Danny Frawley
Daniel Patrick Frawley (8 September 1963 – 9 September 2019) was an Australian rules football player, coach, administrator, commentator and media personality. He played 240 games for the St Kilda Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL)/Australian Football League (AFL) from 1984 to 1995, captaining the club for nine seasons, and won All-Australian selection and the St Kilda best and fairest award in 1988. Terrence "Terry" John Daniher (born 15 August 1957) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the South Melbourne and Essendon Football Clubs in the Australian Football League (AFL).
