Heavy Metal Music
Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, monumental sound characterized by distortion (music), distorted guitars, extended guitar solos, emphatic Beat (music), beats and loudness. In 1968, three of the genre's most famous pioneers – Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple – were founded. Though they came to attract wide audiences, they were often derided by critics. Several American bands modified heavy metal into more accessible forms during the 1970s: the raw, sleazy sound and shock rock of Alice Cooper and Kiss (band), Kiss; the blues-rooted rock of Aerosmith; and the flashy guitar leads and party rock of Van Halen. During the mid-1970s, Judas Priest helped spur the genre's evolution by discarding much of its blues influence,Walser (1993), p. 6 while Motörhea ...

Cathedral (band)
Cathedral were a doom metal band from Coventry, England. The group gained attention upon release of its debut album, ''Forest of Equilibrium'' (1991), which is considered a classic of the genre. However, the band's sound evolved quickly and began to adopt characteristics of 1970s metal, hard rock and progressive rock. After releasing ten full-length albums and touring extensively for over two decades, Cathedral broke up after the release of ''The Last Spire'' in 2013. History Early history (1989–1991) In 1989, Lee Dorrian left Napalm Death because he was reportedly tiring of the punk scene and did not like the death metal direction which Napalm Death was taking. Cathedral was formed after Lee Dorrian and Mark Griffiths (a Carcass roadie) met and discussed their love for bands like Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Pentagram, Trouble, and Witchfinder General. The band was founded in 1989 by Dorrian, Griffiths and Garry Jennings (formerly of thrash metal band Acid Reign). Dorrian was ...

Def Con Dos
Def Con Dos (meaning DEFense CONdition TWO) is a rap rock band from Madrid, Spain. History and style Greatly influenced by hip hop bands Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and Run D.M.C., and rock band Siniestro Total, they started rapping over hip hop bases created by producer Julián Hernández (musician and singer of Siniestro Total). In their '' Segundo Asalto'' tape (1989), the sound still was basically hip hop, but they started using rock guitars. Texts in their lyrics and in the manifestos enclosed with their records are highly offensive and complex, with many references to pop culture: pop music, Spanish folklore, news, publicity, cinema, literature and Spanish and American comics. ''Armas pal pueblo'' (1994) was probably the first album made in Spain with a Spanish version of the ''Parental advisory: Explicit lyrics'' label on the cover. Partly due to their polemical texts, DCD did not get much coverage from mainstream media in their beginnings, with the exception of some ...

They are remembered for the songs "High Enough" and "Where You Goin' Now", both Top 40 hits in the early 1990s. History In the late 1980s, the US rock music scene witnessed a trend for supergroups; Bad English, Mr. Big and Badlands were all formed around the time. Produced by rock producer Ron Nevison, the newly formed band's self-titled debut album was released in 1990 and went double-platinum (in 2004). Tore ended up getting ambitions of beginning his own work and started writing original material. Around the same time, the band acquired Dag Østby as their vocalist and the band named themselves "Redrum". The band was active for only a few months before the three local members left abruptly. Tore and Dag recruited Werner Skogli as the band's drummer as well as Tranberg alumnus Freddy Samsonstuen for bass guitar.
