1989 Asia Golf Circuit
The 1989 Asia Golf Circuit was the 28th season of golf tournaments that comprised the Asia Golf Circuit. American Brian Claar claimed the overall circuit championship. Tournament schedule The table below shows the 1989 Asia Golf Circuit schedule. For the first time, the circuit had eleven tournaments with the addition of the Pakistan Open. Final standings The Asia Golf Circuit operated a points based system to determine the overall circuit champion, with points being awarded in each tournament to the leading players. At the end of the season, the player with the most points was declared the circuit champion, and there was a prize pool to be shared between the top players in the points table. Indonesia Open (golf)
The Indonesia Open is the national open golf championship of Indonesia, and traditionally held in the capital, Jakarta. History The Indonesia Open was founded in 1974 as an event on the Asia Golf Circuit. It remained on the circuit until the end of the 1996 season, after which it joined the rival Asian PGA's Omega Tour for the 1997 season. Having not been held between 1998 and 2004, the Indonesian Open returned in 2005 as a co-sanctioned event on both the Asian Tour and the European Tour. It remained a fixture on the tours through the 2009 season after which it joined the rival OneAsia tour. In 2012 it was the opening event of that tour's calendar and was also an unofficial event on the Japan Golf Tour. Japan Golf Tour
The Japan Golf Tour ( ja, 日本ゴルフツアー機構) is a prominent golf tour. It was founded in 1973 and as of 2006 it offers the third-highest annual prize fund out of the regular (that is not for seniors) men's professional tours after the PGA Tour and the European Tour. However, since the early 1990s, the growth in prize money has not kept pace with that on the two larger tours. Official events on the Japan Golf Tour count for World Golf Ranking points, and success on the tour can also qualify members to play in the majors. Most of the leading players on the tour are Japanese, but players from many other countries also participate. The tour is currently run by the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO), which was established in 1999 to separate the tour from the PGA of Japan. Terry Gale
Terry R. Gale (born 7 June 1946) is an Australian professional golfer. Professional career Gale had a successful amateur career before turning professional at a relatively advanced age in 1976. From the mid-1970s to the early 1990s he won regularly on the PGA Tour of Australasia, the Japan Golf Tour, and the Asia Golf Circuit. Once he turned 50, he joined the European Seniors Tour, where he won seven tournaments. His best season on that tour was 2003, when he finished third on the Order of Merit. He also played on the Japanese Seniors Tour. Personal life Gale originally worked as a sheep farmer. Off the course, Gale was the second Chairman of the PGA Tour of Australasia. The is the official currency of Japan. It is the third-most traded currency in the foreign exchange market, after the United States dollar (US$) and the euro. The Kirin Open was a golf tournament in Japan. It was founded in 1972 as the season ending event on the Asia Golf Circuit, replacing the Yomiuri International which had been cancelled when sponsors decided to discontinue the event. Lu Hsi-chuen
Lu Hsi-chuen (, born 10 December 1953) is a Taiwanese professional golfer. Lu had considerable success on the Asia Golf Circuit from 1979 through to the late 1980s, winning ten tournaments, including nine national opens, and capturing the circuit title four times, in 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1986. Lu also played on the Japan Golf Tour, winning twice. After ending his playing career, Lu became a golf instructor at Sunrise Golf Academy in Yangmei, Taoyuan City, Taiwan. The GS Caltex Maekyung Open, as it is known for sponsorship reasons, is a professional golf tournament that takes place in Seoul, South Korea. It was established in 1982, replacing the Korea Open as the South Korean event on the Asia Golf Circuit. The Taiwan Open was the national open golf tournament of Taiwan. It was also known as the Republic of China Open, ROC Open, Chinese Taipei Open, or simply the China Open. It was founded in 1965, and became an event on the Asia Golf Circuit the following year. The Asian PGA Tour was founded in 1995, and the Asian Circuit declined. Jeffrey Allan Maggert (born February 20, 1964) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions. Early life Maggert was born in Columbia, Missouri. He was raised on a golf course in The Woodlands, Texas where he attended McCullough High School. Amateur career Maggert attended Texas A&M University. He was an All-American member of the golf team. Professional career Maggert turned professional in 1986. Early in his career he played overseas, especially on the Asia Golf Circuit and PGA Tour of Australia. He had some early success, winning the 1989 Malaysian Open on the AGC and the 1990 Vines Classic on the Australian Tour. Benson & Hedges Malaysian Open
The Malaysian Open is a men's professional golf tournament currently played on the Asian Tour. Notable past winners include world number one golfers Vijay Singh and Lee Westwood (both players winning the event on two occasions). Other notable winners include 17-year-old Italian Matteo Manassero in 2011 as well as former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen the following year.
