1988–89 FC Basel Season
The Fussball Club Basel 1893 1988–89 season was their 95th season since the club's foundation. Charles Röthlisberger was the club's chairman, in the club's history he was their 31st chairman and this was his second year in this position. FC Basel played their home games in the St. Jakob Stadium. Following their relegation the season before this was their first season in the second tier of Swiss football since the 1945–46 season. Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Basel have competed in European competitions every season since 1999–2000. Stefan Bützer
Stefan Bützer (born 17 September 1965) is a Swiss retired footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s as midfielder. Bützer played for his youth football with BSC Young Boys and advanced to their first team in the summer of 1984. He played two season for YB and in the 1985–86 Nationalliga A season he played in 26 of the 30 league matches, scoring two goals, as they won the Swiss championship. He then moved on. Bützer joined FC Basel's first team for their 1986–87 season under head-coach Helmut Benthaus. After playing in eight test games, Bützer played his domestic league debut for his new club in the first game of the season, on 9 August 1986, away from home as Basel were defeated 1–3 by Sion. Bützer scored his first goal for his club on 21 March 1987 in the away game in the Wankdorf Stadium and it was the winning goal in the last minute of the match as Basel won 1–0 against his former club Young Boys. Stirling (; sco, Stirlin; gd, Sruighlea ) is a city in central Scotland, northeast of Glasgow and north-west of Edinburgh. Gordon Smith (footballer, Born December 1954)
Gordon Duffield Smith (born 29 December 1954) is a Scottish football player, coach and executive. Smith played for several clubs, including Kilmarnock, Rangers, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City. After retiring as a player, he worked as a football agent and BBC football pundit before being appointed chief executive of the Scottish Football Association in 2007, a post he held until his resignation on 19 April 2010. Smith then worked as the director of football of Rangers during the 2011–12 season. Smith was also responsible for the introduction of an agreement between the Home Nations' football associations which allowed players educated in a home nation for five years before the age of eighteen to represent that nation at international level. Peter Nadig
Peter Nadig (born 20 February 1965) is a former Swiss footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s as midfielder or as striker. Career Nadig played his youth football with local team Basel. He advanced to their first team for their 1983–84 season and signed his first professional contract under manager Ernst-August Künnecke. After playing in 12 test games, Nadig played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game in the St. Jakob Stadium on 11 March 1984 as Basel played a 1–1 draw with Sion. He collected his first yellow card in the same game. He scored his first goal for his club in the home game on 28 April and it was the last goal of the game in the 22nd minute as Basel won 3–0 against Zürich. FC Aarau
FC Aarau is a Swiss football club based in Aarau. They play in the Swiss Challenge League, the second tier of Swiss football after being relegated from Swiss Super League. History FC Aarau was formed on 26 May 1902 by workers from a local brewery. The early days of the club were a success and they won the Swiss championship in 1911–12 and then again in 1913–14. The club spent 25 years, from 1907 to 1933, in the top league but were relegated to the lower league and were unable to return to the top flight for a number of decades. Adrian Knup (born 2 July 1968) is a Swiss former professional football striker who played in the 1980s and 1990s. He was capped 49 times and scored 26 goals for the Switzerland national team between 1989 and 1996, including three games at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Basler Sportclub Old Boys, commonly known as BSC Old Boys, Old Boys Basel or simply Old Boys or when written just OB, is a Swiss sports club based in Basel. The club is mainly known for its football but it also has track, swimming and tennis sections. The association's colors are yellow and black. History In 1876 the gymnastics teacher at the then secondary school, Adolf Glaz, founded the RTV/Realschüler-Turnverein (secondary school student gymnastics club). Varadaraju Sundramoorthy ( ta, வரதராஜு சுந்தரமூர்த்தி; born 6 October 1965) is a former Singaporean international footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s, is widely touted as one of the country's most skilful and talented footballers ever.
