1988 UCI Track Cycling World Championships
The 1988 UCI Track Cycling World Championships were the World Championship for track cycling. They took place in Ghent, Belgium from 21 to 25 August 1988. Eight events were contested, 7 for men (5 for professionals, 2 for amateurs) and 1 for women with a demonstration non-Championship points race for women. Jesper Worre
Jesper Worre, (born 5 June 1959) is a former Danish professional bicycle racer and a former director of the Danmarks Cykle Union (DCU) by the board of directors. Biography Worre competed in the team time trial event at the 1980 Summer Olympics. He was a professional between 1982 and 1992 and took part in the 1989 Tour de France, finishing 88th in the general classification. Worre has once been tested positive for amineptine in 1992, he confessed to the use of doping, receiving a conditional suspension. Amineptine is a mild but pleasant stimulant and a fast-acting mood-brightener. Amineptine had been on the doping list for a couple of months before Worres confession of using amineptine, and was removed again from the list of banned performance-enhancing drugs shortly after. Worre was caught a doping a second time, making him the only Danish rider aside from Kim Andersen to be caught doping multiple times. Roland Renn
Roland (; frk, *Hrōþiland; lat-med, Hruodlandus or ''Rotholandus''; it, Orlando or ''Rolando''; died 15 August 778) was a Frankish military leader under Charlemagne who became one of the principal figures in the literary cycle known as the Matter of France. The historical Roland was military governor of the Breton March, responsible for defending Francia's frontier against the Bretons. His only historical attestation is in Einhard's ''Vita Karoli Magni'', which notes he was part of the Frankish rearguard killed in retribution by the Basques in Iberia at the Battle of Roncevaux Pass. Roland Königshofer
Roland Königshofer (born 24 October 1962) is a retired Austrian cyclist. He won a medal at every UCI Motor-paced World Championships between 1985 and 1994, until the championships were discontinued, either in the amateurs (1985–1992) or professionals category (1993–1994). He also competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in the 4000 m team pursuit and points race and finished in 16th and 12th place, respectively. His son Lukas Königshofer, Lukas (b. 1989) is a football player. His brother Thomas Königshofer, Thomas is also a retired cyclists; he finished third at the UCI Motor-paced World Championships in 1989 behind Roland. Daniel "Danny" Clark OAM (born 30 August 1951 in George Town, Tasmania, Australia) is a retired track cyclist and road bicycle racer from Australia, who was a professional rider from 1974 to 1997. He won five world championships and at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, came second in the 1,000m time trial. Clark was often fastest finishing rider in six-day races, especially as Patrick Sercu slowed after the mid-1970s. Clark and the British rider, Tony Doyle, won many six-day races. Clark enjoyed the party atmosphere of the races, and continued to work in them as a Derny pacer after retiring.
