The 1987 Skate Canada International was held in Calgary, Alberta on October 29–31. It was the test event for the 1988 Winter Olympics. Kurt Browning
Kurt Browning, (born June 18, 1966) is a Canadian figure skater, choreographer and commentator. He is the first skater to land a ratified quadruple jump in competition. He is a four-time World Champion and Canadian national champion. Career Browning was both Canadian figure skating champion and World Champion four times. He represented Canada in three Winter Olympics, 1988 (finishing 8th overall), 1992 (6th) and 1994 (5th), and earned the privilege of carrying the Canadian flag during the opening ceremonies of the 1994 games in Lillehammer, Norway. Browning's other achievements include three Canadian Professional Championships and three World Professional Championships. On March 25, 1988, at the 1988 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Browning landed the first ratified quadruple jump, a toe loop in the competition. Robert Kates (figure Skater)
Robert W. Kates (January 31, 1929 – April 21, 2018) was an American geographer and independent scholar in Trenton, Maine, and University Professor (Emeritus) at Brown University. Background Kates was born in Brooklyn, New York. Unusually for an academic, he never completed an undergraduate degree. He studied Economics at New York University from 1946-8, but dropped out. He married Ellie Hackman (d.2016) at the age of 19 and went to work in a steel mill in Indiana for 12 years, working with the labor union and other movements. He had a chance encounter with a naturalist in a state park in Indiana when on vacation with his family, and this meeting inspired him to train to become an elementary school teacher, a job he thought would free up summer vacations for the family. Cheryl Amanda McGehee (née Peake; 30 March 1966 – 12 June 2013) was a British pair skater. With her skating partner, Andrew Naylor, she was a six-time British national champion. Rashid Kadyrkaev
Rashid Kadyrkaev (russian: Рашид Кадыркаев, born in Uzbek SSR) is an Uzbeki retired pair skater who competed internationally for the Soviet Union. Career Kadyrkaev first had success internationally skating with Marina Nikitiuk. They were coached by Valeri Tyukov. Nikitiuk and Kadyrkaev won the silver medal at the 1980 World Junior Figure Skating Championships and the bronze medal at the 1981 Junior Worlds. He now lives in the United States as an ice skating director and coach. In 1982, Coach Stanislav Zhuk broke up their partnership and partnered Kadyrkaev with Marina Cherkasova. Joanne Conway
Joanne Conway (born 11 March 1971) is a British former competitive figure skater. A six-time British national champion, she placed as high as 4th at the European Championships and 7th at the World Championships. She also competed at two Winter Olympics. Career Conway began skating as a four-year-old, her father taking her and her siblings to the local rink on weekends. At age 12, she sustained a cut to her Achilles tendon in a collision with another skater. Conway was coached mainly by Carlo Fassi and also spent a summer in the United States training under Robin Cousins. She would win six British national titles, claiming her first at the age of 14. She made her major championship debut at the 1986 European Championships, finishing 11th.
