1987 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship For Women
The 1987 FIBA European Championship for Cadettes was the 7th edition of the European basketball championship for U16 women's teams, today known as FIBA U16 Women's European Championship. 12 teams featured in the competition, held in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland, from 26 July to 2 August 1987. The Soviet Union won their seventh title in a row. Žana Lelas
Žana Lelas (28 May 1970 – 15 September 2021) was a Croatian professional basketball player. She represented Yugoslavia and Croatia in basketball and is regarded as one of few players to have represented two nations at international level. She was married to Vjekoslav Lokica, a renowned football coach. Career Zana Lelas was the winner of the bronze medal with the Yugoslavia U16 team at the 1987 FIBA European Championship. She was also the top scorer of the 1987 FIBA U-16 European Championship averaging 26.6 points per game. Lelas was part of the Yugoslavian side that clinched the silver medal in the women's basketball competition at the 1988 Summer Olympics. She was a key member of the Yugoslavia U19 side which emerged as runners-up to the Soviet Union at the 1989 FIBA Under-19 World Championship. The 1989 FIBA European Championship for Cadettes was the 8th edition of the European basketball championship for U16 women's teams, today known as FIBA U16 Women's European Championship. 12 teams featured in the competition, held in Timișoara, Romania, from 5 to 12 August 1989. Czechoslovakia won their first and only title before their dissolution four years later. It was the first time that a team other than the Soviet Union won the title. Gorzów Wielkopolski
Gorzów Wielkopolski (; german: Landsberg an der Warthe) often abbreviated to Gorzów Wlkp. or simply Gorzów, is a city in western Poland, on the Warta river. It is the second largest city in the Lubusz Voivodeship with 120,087 inhabitants (December 2021) and one of its two capitals with a seat of a voivode, with the other being Zielona Góra. Around Gorzów, there are two large forest areas: Gorzów Woods to the north, where the Barlinek-Gorzów Landscape Park is situated, and Noteć Woods to the southeast.
