1986–87 ACB Season
The 1986–87 ACB season was the 4th season of the Liga ACB, ACB Primera División, the top Spanish professional basketball league. It started on 13 September 1986 with the first round of the regular season and ended on 25 April 1987 with the finals. FC Barcelona Bàsquet, FC Barcelona won their first ACB title, and their fourth List of Spanish basketball champions, Spanish title. Format changes Starting from this season, the promotions and relegations teams at the end of the season between Liga ACB, ACB Primera División and Primera División B were reduced from three to two teams. For the championship playoffs, the semifinals and finals adopted the Playoff format#Best-of-five playoff, best-of-five playoff, instead of previous season's Playoff format#Best-of-three playoff, best-of-three playoff that were kept for the first round and quarterfinals. Liga ACB
The Liga ACB, known as Liga Endesa for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system. Administrated by the Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto (ACB), Liga ACB is contested by 18 teams, with the two lowest-placed teams relegated to the LEB Oro and replaced by the top team in that division plus the winner of the promotion playoffs. The competition was founded as the ACB Primera División on 1983 following the decision of clubs in the Liga Nacional, founded in 1957, to break away from the Spanish Basketball Federation and professionalize the league. The league's accumulated revenues were worth around €30 million in 2020, with Endesa and Movistar Plus+ contributing 50% of the revenues of the league.
