1984–85 England Hockey League Season
The 1984–85 English Hockey League season took place from September 1984 until May 1985. The season culminated in the National Inter League Championship for men which brought together the winners of their respective regions. The Men's championship was won by East Grinstead. The Men's Cup ( National Clubs Championships/Hockey Association Cup) was won by Southgate and the Women's Cup (National Clubs Championship) was won by Ipswich. Men's England Hockey League
The Men's England Hockey League is a field hockey league organized by England Hockey that features men's teams from England and Wales. Format Regular season There are 62 teams in the league, the top tier consists of a Premier Division of twelve teams. Below this is tier two, which consists of two ten-team Division One regional teams (North and South). The third tier consists of three regional conferences North, West, and East, all consisting of ten teams. The teams play each other home and away during an 18 week season from September to April. The league has a winter break between December and February. The winners of the Premier Division regular season automatically qualify to play in the Euro Hockey League. League Finals Weekend The top four Premier Division teams from the regular season qualify for the League Finals Weekend. Clifton Robinsons Hockey Club is a field hockey club based at Westbury-on-Trym in Bristol. It was formed by the merging of Clifton Ladies Hockey Club and Robinsons Hockey Club. The clubs had shared close links for many years, sharing pitches, umpires, coaches and annual dinners and in summer 2016 joined to form a single club. Sean Kerly
Sean Robin Kerly (born 29 January 1960) is an English former field hockey player. Biography Kerly was born in Whitstable and was educated at Chatham House Grammar School in Ramsgate. He has played club hockey for Canterbury, Southgate and Herne Bay. In 1981, he made his England senior international debut. At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, he helped Great Britain secure the bronze medal. Kerly scored the winning goal in the bronze medal match in LA against Australia (3-2). The success is attributed as having revived interest in hockey in Britain. Two years later, at the 1986 Men's Hockey World Cup, Britain won the silver medal on home ground in London, with Kerly scoring four goals in the tournament. John David Shaw (born 24 April 1962) is an English former field hockey player. Shaw represented Great Britain in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He also won a silver medal with England at the 1986 World Cup. He also won an Olympic gold medal in Seoul. Shaw was born in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia. Stephen James "Steve" Batchelor (born 22 June 1961) is an English former field hockey player. International career Batchelor was a gold medal winning Great Britain squad member in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, setting up Imran Sherwani in the final against West-Germany. Four years earlier he won Bronze at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. He also won silver with the England squad at the 1986 Hockey World Cup.
