The 1984 Virginia Slims of Pennsylvania, also known as the Ginny of Central Pennsylvania, was a women's tennis tournament played on women's indoor carpet courts at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey, Pennsylvania in the United States that was part of the Ginny Tournament Circuit of the 1984 Virginia Slims World Championship Series. The tournament was held from January 9 through January 15, 1984. Unseeded Catarina Lindqvist won the singles title. Finals Singles Catarina Lindqvist defeated Beth Herr 6–4, 6–0 * It was Lindqvist's 1st singles career title. Doubles Marcela Skuherská / Kateřina Böhmová defeated Ann Henricksson / Nancy Yeargin 6–1, 6–3 * It was Skuherská's only career title. It is one of the fastest court types, second only to grass courts. The use of carpet courts in ATP Tour competitions ended in 2009. Anna Catarina Lindqvist Ryan (born 13 June 1963) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. Career Lindqvist turned professional in 1983. She reached a career high rank of World No. 10 in April 1985 and won five singles titles. Marcela Skuherská
Marcela Skuherská-Davidová (born 14 February 1961) is a former professional tennis player who represented Czechoslovakia. Biography Skuherská, who was born in Přerov, played on the professional circuit in the 1980s. She was a member of the Czechoslovak Fed Cup team in 1983 and 1984, which won the competition both years. All six of her Fed Cup appearances came partnering Iva Budařová in doubles, including the final against West Germany in 1983. In 1984 the pair played in both the quarter-final and semi-final, but stood aside for Hana Mandlíková and Helena Suková in the final. The 1984 Virginia Slims World Championship Series was the 14th season since the foundation of the Women's Tennis Association. It commenced in March 1984, and concluded in March 1985 after events. The Virginia Slims World Championship Series was the elite tour for professional women's tennis organised by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). It was held in place of the WTA Tour from 1983 until 1987 and featured tournaments that had previously been part of the ''Toyota Series'' and the ''Avon Series''. It included the four Grand Slam tournaments and a series of other events. ITF tournaments were not part of the tour, although they awarded points for the WTA World Ranking. Beth Herr (born 28 May 1964) is an American tennis player from Centerville, Ohio, who won four Junior Grand Slam titles, the NCAA singles and team titles and one professional tennis tournament. In her home state of Ohio, she was a two-time high school singles state champion (1980-1981). Her NCAA singles title came in 1983. College Herr became the number-one junior tennis player in the world at the age of 16.
