The 1984 Swedish speedway season was the 1984 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Swedish Individual Speedway Championship, Individual Championship The 1984 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held on 8 September in Karlstad. Jan Andersson (speedway rider), Jan Andersson won the Swedish Championship for the fourth time. Swedish Junior Speedway Championship, Swedish U21 Championship Winner - Jimmy Nilsen Team Swedish Speedway Team Championship, Team Championship Njudungarna won the Elitserien (speedway), Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the fourth time. The Njudungarna team included Conny Samuelsson, Ulf Blomqvist and Uno Johansson. The Smederna club split up in two separate clubs called Smederna and Tuna Rebels and the league format changed in that there were only four divisions. Individual Individual Championship The 1983 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held on 10 September in Mariestad. Tommy Nilsson won the Swedish Championship. Swedish U21 Championship Winner - Ove Osterberg Team Team Championship Njudungarna won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the third time. The Njudungarna team included Göran Waltersson, Uno Johansson, Conny Samuelsson and Alf Trofast. Gamarna and Vargarna won the first division north and south respectively, while Eldarna and Filbyterna won the second division north and south respectively. Per Jonsson
Per Jonsson (born 21 March 1966 in Stockholm, Sweden) is a former speedway rider who won the Speedway World Championship in 1990, and finished runner-up in 1992. Career In 1985, his second season with the Reading Racers, the team won six major trophies. In 1993, he won the World Pairs Championship with Tony Rickardsson and reserve Henrik Gustafsson, and also won the British League Riders' Championship. His career was cut short when a crash during a league meeting in Poland in 1994 left him using a wheelchair for the rest of his life. In recognition of his contribution to the city of Toruń, in April 2010 one of the streets was named after him. Per Jonsson became the first rider in history to win both the World and World Under-21 Championships. He won the Under-21 title in 1985 at Abensberg, Bavaria, West Germany when the title was still known as the European Speedway Under 21 Championship*. Lejonen
Lejonen (the Lions) is a motorcycle speedway club from Gislaved in Sweden, who compete in the Elitserien. Their home track is at the OnePartnerGroup Arena which is Sweden's oldest track still in use. The club are two times champions of Sweden. History In December 1929 Gislaved Motorclub was formed and by 1931 the track was built. The track was originally wide and long but in 1936 it was widened to and during the 1980s the inside edge of the track was moved and the length was reduced to . In 1963 the Lejonen team began racing in Division Three and became the champions in 1965. Lejonen finished at the top of Division Two (the Allsvenskan) in 2007 and defeated Valsarna in the play-off final to gain promotion to the Elitserien for 2008.
