1984 Asia Golf Circuit
The 1984 Asia Golf Circuit was the 23rd season of golf tournaments that comprised the Asia Golf Circuit. John Jacobs claimed the overall circuit title. Tournament schedule The table below shows the 1984 Asian Golf Circuit schedule. Due to economic turmoil in the Philippines, the Philippine Open was dropped from the circuit. Final standings The Asia Golf Circuit operated a points based system to determine the overall circuit champion, with points being awarded in each tournament to the leading players. At the end of the season, the player with the most points was declared the circuit champion, and there was a prize pool to be shared between the top players in the points table. Singapore Open (golf)
The Singapore Open was a golf tournament in Singapore that was predominantly part of the Asian Tour schedule. The event was held at Sentosa Golf Club since 2005 and since 2017 had been part of the Open Qualifying Series, giving up to four non-exempt players entry into The Open Championship. The Singapore Open was founded in 1961 and was one of the tournaments on the first season of the Far East Circuit (later the Asia Golf Circuit) the following year. It remained part of the Asia circuit until 1993 when it became a fixture on the Australasian Tour. After just 3 seasons, it left the Australasian Tour to join the fledgling Asian Tour for that tour's second season in 1996. Lu Hsi-chuen
Lu Hsi-chuen (, born 10 December 1953) is a Taiwanese professional golfer. Lu had considerable success on the Asia Golf Circuit from 1979 through to the late 1980s, winning ten tournaments, including nine national opens, and capturing the circuit title four times, in 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1986. Lu also played on the Japan Golf Tour, winning twice. After ending his playing career, Lu became a golf instructor at Sunrise Golf Academy in Yangmei, Taoyuan City, Taiwan. Lu is the nephew of Lu Liang-Huan. Japan Golf Tour
The Japan Golf Tour ( ja, 日本ゴルフツアー機構) is a prominent golf tour. It was founded in 1973 and as of 2006 it offers the third-highest annual prize fund out of the regular (that is not for seniors) men's professional tours after the PGA Tour and the European Tour. However, since the early 1990s, the growth in prize money has not kept pace with that on the two larger tours. Official events on the Japan Golf Tour count for World Golf Ranking points, and success on the tour can also qualify members to play in the majors. Most of the leading players on the tour are Japanese, but players from many other countries also participate. The tour is currently run by the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO), which was established in 1999 to separate the tour from the PGA of Japan. Dunlop International Open
The Kirin Open was a golf tournament in Japan. It was founded in 1972 as the season ending event on the Asia Golf Circuit, replacing the Yomiuri International which had been cancelled when sponsors decided to discontinue the event. It was also a fixture on the Japan Golf Tour from 1974 until 2001. Mike Clayton (golfer)
Michael Andrew Clayton (born 30 May 1957) is an Australian professional golfer, golf course architect and commentator on the game. He won the 1984 Timex Open on the European Tour and won six times on the PGA Tour of Australasia between 1982 and 1994. Amateur career Clayton was born in Melbourne, Victoria. He had a very successful amateur career which included the 1978 Australian Amateur, and the Victorian Amateur in 1977 and 1981. Professional career Clayton turned professional in 1981, the same year he joined the Australian Tour. He won his first tour event one year later and would win six more times between then and 1994. Clayton played on the European Tour from 1982 to 2000, winning the 1984 Timex Open in Biarritz. He also won the 1984 Maekyung Open. His best finish on the Australian Order of Merit was 4th in 1994. The GS Caltex Maekyung Open, as it is known for sponsorship reasons, is a professional golf tournament that takes place in Seoul, South Korea. It was established in 1982, replacing the Korea Open as the South Korean event on the Asia Golf Circuit. Between 1999 and 2009 (except for 2004) it was a stop on the Asian Tour, and then in 2010 it became part of the OneAsia Tour schedule. The Taiwan Open was the national open golf tournament of Taiwan. It was also known as the Republic of China Open, ROC Open, Chinese Taipei Open, or simply the China Open. It was founded in 1965, and became an event on the Asia Golf Circuit the following year. The Asian PGA Tour was founded in 1995, and the Asian Circuit declined. Terry Gale
Terry R. Gale (born 7 June 1946) is an Australian professional golfer. Professional career Gale had a successful amateur career before turning professional at a relatively advanced age in 1976. From the mid-1970s to the early 1990s he won regularly on the PGA Tour of Australasia, the Japan Golf Tour, and the Asia Golf Circuit. Once he turned 50, he joined the European Seniors Tour, where he won seven tournaments. His best season on that tour was 2003, when he finished third on the Order of Merit. The Indonesia Open is the national open golf championship of Indonesia, and traditionally held in the capital, Jakarta. History The Indonesia Open was founded in 1974 as an event on the Asia Golf Circuit. It remained on the circuit until the end of the 1996 season, after which it joined the rival Asian PGA's Omega Tour for the 1997 season. Having not been held between 1998 and 2004, the Indonesian Open returned in 2005 as a co-sanctioned event on both the Asian Tour and the European Tour. It remained a fixture on the tours through the 2009 season after which it joined the rival OneAsia tour. Tom Sieckmann
Thomas Edward Sieckmann (born January 14, 1955) is an American professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour. Sieckmann was born in York, Nebraska. He won several amateur tournaments in his home state while growing up, and received the 1974 Nebraska Golf Association's ''Amateur of the Year'' award. Sieckmann attended Oklahoma State University, and was a member of the golf team. He turned professional in 1977. Sieckmann had a 17-year career on the PGA Tour highlighted by a win at the 1988 Anheuser-Busch Golf Classic. He had a top 10 finish at the 1990 U.S. Open. The Rolex Masters was a golf tournament held in Singapore from 1973 to 1998. It was played on the Singapore Island Country Club's Bukit course. For the first three years it was played as a 54-hole invitation event, before extending to 72-holes in 1976.
