Shonan Bellmare
is a Japanese professional football club based in Hiratsuka, in the west of Kanagawa Prefecture, part of the Greater Tokyo Area. The club plays in the J1 League, which is the top tier of football in the country. Their home stadium is Hiratsuka Athletics Stadium. '' Shonan'' refers to a coastal area along Sagami Bay that includes Hiratsuka. ''Bellmare'' is a portmanteau of the Italian words ''bello'' and ''mare'', meaning "beautiful sea". NKK Soccer Club (NKKサッカー部, ''Enu Kei Kei Sakka Bu'', formerly Nippon Kokan Soccer Club (日本鋼管サッカー部, ''Nippon Kokan Sakka Bu'')) was a Japanese football club which operated from 1932 to 1994. It played in the old Japan Soccer League since 1967 until its closing. It was affiliated with NKK, a steel company that today is part of the JFE Holdings conglomerate. was a multi-purpose stadium in Kasumigaokamachi, Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. The stadium served as the main stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as being the venue for track and field events at the 1964 Summer Olympics. This competition serves as the season opener and is played between the reigning J1 League champions and the Emperor's Cup winners. Fuji Xerox have sponsored the competition since its inception in 1994 (rebranded as Fujifilm Business Innovation from April 2021). The match is usually played in February each year. Participating clubs Under the normal circumstances, the following clubs participate: *Defending J1 League champions *Defending Emperor's Cup winners However, if one club wins both the J1 League and the Emperor's Cup, the J1 League runners-up will participate.
