1982 Espirito Santo Trophy
The 1982 Espirito Santo Trophy took place 8–11 October at Geneva Golf Club in Geneva, Switzerland. It was the tenth women's golf World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 28 teams, each with up to three players. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. The United States team won the Trophy, defending the title from two years ago and winning their eighth title, beating team New Zealand by seven strokes. New Zealand earned the silver medal while the combined team of Great Britain and Ireland took the bronze on third place another two strokes behind. Teams 26 teams contested the event. Liv Wollin (née Forsell) (born 17 April 1945) is a Swedish professional golfer, who is regarded as having been one of the best Swedish female amateur players ever. Early life Wollin grew up in Lidingö outside Stockholm, Sweden, as the only girl among five siblings. Her parents were Jacob Forsell and Mette, nee Grut, and they were not golfers. Liselotte Maria "Lotta" Neumann (born 20 May 1966) is a Swedish professional golfer. When she recorded her first LPGA Tour win, by claiming the 1988 U.S. Women's Open title, Neumann also became the first Swedish golfer, male or female, to win a major championship. Cristina Marsans Astoreca (9 May 1946 – 26 August 2018) also known as Marquesa de Artasona, was a Spanish golfer, best known for popularizing competitive golf in Spain. Early life Marsans was the daughter of Enrique Marsans, founder of the first travel agency in Spain. Marta Figueras-Dotti (born 12 November 1957) is a retired Spanish professional golfer. Early life Figueras-Dotti was born in Madrid and her father was the president of the Spanish Golf Association. Laurette Maritz (born 13 January 1964) is a South African professional golfer. She won three titles on the Ladies European Tour between 1988 and 1990, and was LET Rookie of the Year in 1988. Early life and amateur career Maritz grew up in Johannesburg and started playing golf when she was 11. Consumed by the sport, she quit high school after the 11th grade. Federica Dassù (born 17 February 1957) is an Italian professional golfer. Career Dassù was born in Milan. She turned professional in 1983 and joined the Women Professional Golfers' European Tour (now the Ladies European Tour). She won her last Ladies European Tour title, the 2003 Open de España Femenino at an age of 44, the oldest LET winner at the time, and announced her retirement at the end of the season. Isabella Robertson (née McCorkindale) (born 11 April 1936) is a Scottish golfer who won the British Ladies Amateur in 1981. Robertson represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup as a player on seven occasions and twice as non-playing captain. She was inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. Jane Connachan (born 25 February 1964) is a Scottish professional golfer who played on the Ladies European Tour. Amateur career Connachan was considered a child prodigy, playing competitive golf constantly since the age of 10, and in the 17 years until she suddenly retired at age 27, accumulated an almost unparalleled record.
