The Palestra, often called the Cathedral of College Basketball, is a historic arena and the home gym of the Penn Quakers men's and women's basketball teams, volleyball teams, wrestling team, and Philadelphia Big 5 basketball. Located at 235 South 33rd St. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, near Franklin Field in the University City section of Philadelphia, it opened on January 1, 1927. Jim Boyle (basketball)
Jim Boyle (June 9, 1942 – December 23, 2005) was an American former college basketball player and coach. He coached at Saint Joseph's from 1981 to 1990. Early life and playing career Boyle grew up in Philadelphia. He attended West Catholic Preparatory High School, where his teammates included Jim Lynam and Herb Magee. As a senior in 1959, he helped lead the team to the city title. Boyle played college basketball at Saint Joseph's under Jack Ramsay. He led the team in rebounding as a junior, and was named a captain as a senior, averaging 11.6 points per game. Boyle graduated from Saint Joseph's in 1964. Coaching career After graduating from Saint Joseph's, Boyle taught in the parochial school system in the Philadelphia area. In 1971, he was hired as an assistant at Widener.
