1981 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
The 1981 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship was the 91st staging of the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Tipperary County Board in 1887. Roscrea were the defending champions. On 25 October 1981, Borris-Ileigh won the championship after a 1–14 to 0–12 defeat of Roscrea in the final at Semple Stadium. It was their fourth championship title overall and their first title since 1953. John Stone (hurler)
John Stone (born 1958) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Roscrea and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Stone first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Roscrea club. He was part of the club's minor team that won three consecutive North Tipperary MHC titles from 1974 to 1976. Stone progressed onto the senior team and was at left wing-forward when Roscrea beat Kilruane MacDonaghs in the 1980 final. Stone first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Tipperary minor hurling team. He was at full-forward when Tipperary beat Kilkenny by 16 points in the 1976 All-Ireland minor final. Stone later won consecutive All-Ireland U21HC titles with the Tipperary under-21 team in 1978 and 1979. He joined the senior team for the 1980-81 season. Tommy O'Dwyer
Thomas O'Dwyer (born 1950) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Borris–Ileigh and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career O'Dwyer first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels and was part of the team that won the club's inaugural Tipperary U21AHC title in 1969. His association with the club's senior team spanned three decades, during which time he won five North Tipperary SHC titles and three Tipperary SHC titles between 1972 and 1988. O'Dwyer was a non-playing substitute and selector when Borris–Ileigh beat Rathnure in the 1987 All-Ireland club final. O'Dwyer first played for Tipperary at minor level before later joining the under-21 team, however, he enjoyed little success in these grades as Cork was the dominant team at the time. John Flanagan (Tipperary Hurler)
John Flanagan (born 1947) is an Irish former hurler who played as a right corner-forward at senior level for the Tipperary county team. Flanagan made his first appearance for the team during the 1967 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement a decade later. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal, two Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. At club level Flanagan is a Munster medalist with Moycarkey–Borris. Seán Fitzpatrick (hurler)
Seán Fitzpatrick (born 1951) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Carrick Swans and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Fitzpatrick first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with Carrick Swans. He won several divisional titles in the minor and under-21 grades, before winning a Tipperary U21AHC title in 1972. By this stage Fitzpatrick had joined the Carrick senior team and won six South Tipperary SHC medals between 1974 and 1986. Fitzpatrick never played at minor level for Tipperary, however, his club performances earned a call-up to the under-21 team that won the Munster U21HC title in 1972. He was also a member of the intermediate team that year and lined out at left corner-back 1972 All-Ireland intermediate final defeat of Galway. Noel O'Dwyer
Noel O'Dwyer (born 26 December 1948) is an Irish former hurling, hurler. At club level he played with Borris–Ileigh GAA, Borris–Ileigh and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career O'Dwyer played hurling as a schoolboy at Templemore CBS where he won a Dr. Kinane Cup and three successive Dr. Croke Cup titles. He first played for Borris–Ileigh GAA, Borris–Ileigh at juvenile and underage levels and was part of the team that won the club's inaugural Tipperary U21AHC title in 1969. JK Brackens is a Gaelic Athletic Association club serving the parish of Templemore, Clonmore and Killea in County Tipperary, Ireland. JK Brackens compete in the county Tipperary GAA and Mid-Tipperary divisional competitions and is one of only two clubs in Tipperary that consistently complete at senior level in both the hurling and gaelic football. Éire Óg Annacarty GAA club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the parish of Anacarty & Donohill, in west County Tipperary in Ireland. Cashel King Cormacs GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Cashel, County Tipperary in Ireland. They play their games in Leahy Park, on the Clonmel Road in Cashel. Carrick Swans GAA
Carrick Swan GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club, located in the town of Carrick-on-Suir in south County Tipperary in Ireland. It is one of three GAA clubs in the town, one of which, St. Molleran's, is in County Waterford in the southern suburb of Carrickbeg. The Swan are predominantly a hurling club and lead the roll of honour for the number of South Tipperary senior hurling championships won. The club enjoys a keen rivalry with the longer established Carrick Davins, named in honour of Maurice Davin, first President of the GAA who lived at Deerpark near the town. They have one of the best setups for underage youngsters in the county with numerous county titles been won underage. The Swans' most famous players were the Wall brothers, Willie and Tom who played with distinction for Tipperary in the 1940s.
