Jimmy Connors
James Scott Connors (born September 2, 1952) is an American former world No. 1 tennis player. He held the top Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) ranking for a then-record 160 consecutive weeks from 1974 to 1977 and a career total of 268 weeks. By virtue of his long and prolific career, Connors still holds three prominent Open Era men's singles records: 109 titles, 1,557 matches played, and 1,274 match wins. His titles include eight major singles titles (a joint Open Era record five US Opens, two Wimbledons, one Australian Open), three year-end championships, and 17 Grand Prix Super Series titles. In 1974, he became the second man in the Open Era to win three major titles in a calendar year, and was not permitted to participate in the fourth, the French Open. Connors finished year end number one in the ATP rankings from 1974 to 1978. In 1982, he won both Wimbledon and the US Open and was ATP Player of the Year and ITF World Champion. Chris Dunk
Chris Dunk (born January 23, 1958) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Dunk did not start playing tournament tennis until the age of 14. Four years later, at 18, he was a top 10 junior in singles and doubles and won the National Junior Hardcourt Doubles title. He attended the University of California, Berkeley in the fall of 1976 on a tennis scholarship. Dunk became a two-time All-American in 1978 and 1980. In his senior year, his university tennis team was ranked #1 in the U.S. after winning the 1980 Collegiate Indoor team title. Dunk and his doubles partner Marty Davis were ranked #1 doubles team in the U.S. during his senior season. Dunk finished his senior year ranked in the top 15 in singles as well. Robert Van't Hof (born April 10, 1959) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Early life Van't Hof was born in Lynwood, California. Education Van't Hof studied for three years at the University of Southern California, winning the National Collegiate Athletic Association singles title in 1980. He left the University without being awarded a degree, in order to pursue his tennis career. Van't Hof was inducted into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Hall of Fame in 2003. Walter Redondo (born 1958) is an American artist and former professional tennis player. His elder sister Marita Redondo competed on the WTA Tour. Redondo is the fifth of nine children born into a Filipino American family from San Diego. Philip Clive Dent (born 14 February 1950) is a former professional tennis player. Dent's high water mark as a pro singles player was reaching the Australian Open final in 1974, which he lost to Jimmy Connors in four sets. Glen Holroyd (born September 25, 1954) is a former professional tennis player from the United States and played college tennis at Arizona State University. Biography Career Holroyd competed professionally in the early 1980s. He made the main singles draw of the 1981 Wimbledon Championships and was beaten in the first round by 16th seed Vitas Gerulaitis, then in the men's doubles made it all the way to the third round with partner Walter Redondo, where they took eventual finalists Bob Lutz and Stan Smith to five sets. Christophe Roger-Vasselin (; born 8 July 1957) is a French former professional tennis player. Roger-Vasselin won two doubles titles during his professional career. Notably in his singles career, he reached the French Open semifinals in 1983, beating No. 1 seed Jimmy Connors in the quarterfinals, but lost to eventual champion Yannick Noah. The right-hander reached his highest singles Association of Tennis Professionals, ATP ranking on 20 June 1983, when he became world No. 29. In the autumn of 1977 he briefly played with a double-strung racket, the so-called spaghetti racket, with which he reached the final of the Porée Cup in Paris. The racket was banned shortly afterwards. His son Édouard Roger-Vasselin followed him into the profession and is currently active on the ATP Tour, and went on to win the French Open in doubles in 2014.
